well, they def changed something: at best they just reduced the currents. But something is still not right as speed does not make any sense if you look at the brown bar and at wind side.

you can still feel the currents having an effect on your ship when turning and the wind side does not matter because once again, i'm sometimes faster with wind against me (because current on the back)

in barter routes or at usual spots where current was weak, we don't see any change because our ships are already very fast and ignore currents.
i lowered my ship stats and with 165% valor, at crocs i did not see any diff for me.
but with 165 valor at lekra, i can see an improvement but barely.

barter time for me is exactly the same. usual croc rota, same. Lekra, better.
But still super weird stuff: how can i be faster with wind on front against an old 50 current (at rust SW to NE). i don't get that. i did the trip go and back, starting from a stopped position.

This was messed up before as well.

With zero wind and zero current, you would be slower than 150 wind in front of you and zero current.

definetely not working right.   Riding from Arehaza > Velia, with my sail rolled up, meaning wind has zero effect, and i'm hitting spots where i'm slower and spots where i'm faster.  That means sea current is still there.

Both your statements are right.
We 100% know that currents are there. 
The doubt that remains is: did they weaken them or they just took off UI?
i went to the worst zones i knew: south lekra and north crocs and lowered my ship stats to match 50 cabins. the struggle feels the same (but i'm no expert in those 2 areas). so i can't be 100% sure. With 100 cabins, both areas feel way easier but that is for sure due to stats increase.

like you did with your sail rolled up, i tried in the rust zone where current was supposed to be 50 going NE to SW, with sails rolled down and wind in back, it took me longer in a 3min trip than on the way back with sails up (current supposedly in front + wind 290 in front) :/

I don't think they weakened anything.  I think they just removed the UI.

You can feel the currents at crocs yet, they didn't remove it, it just got weakened, I could feel the speed changes all the time in the hour I grinded there, stay at current zero rotation for a while and after you move out of there you instantly can see and feel how your ship get much slower, so the bad thing is that they didn't remove the current and instead just did them all weaker.. the good is that is good enough to be able to grind the whole crocs zone now without having to do do the annoying switch of server idea anymore.. that is if you've a geared carrack at least. Also I know this was bs after I did my whole barter trades at margoria and I was still ending with the same amount of ration when I was done, just like it was happening before this "change" was supposedly added, like it is not faster or better than before but just the same thing.

Just why remove or fake remove the current system at all. Just weaken currents (as it seems to be rn) and leave the UI in place. UI is so weirdly asymmetrical now. What a cheap "solution". Edit: Sailing is way less realistic now. Kinda miss the current system.

On closer inspection, there is some funny business going on.  Previously, with the ocean current system, when you reached an area of "0" currents (outside of town areas), your ship would enter a state of gliding effortlessly across the water, like a kind of superspeed.  As soon as the currents hit even a small number, like 10, the ship would immediately slow down, even if the currents were going in your favor.  It didn't matter, any current at all = slow, 0 currents = fast.

With the patch, I assumed that they just set currents to minimal and got rid of the "superspeed" from true 0 currents.  However you can still see a sudden change in certain areas of the ocean, like here.  I activate breezy sail and barely get over 50% speed, then as soon as I cross over an invisible line to a different current+wind zone, I enter what must be a true 0 current area and the bar leaps up to maximum.  The speed change is apparent in reality itself too, it still glides noticibly faster over the water with less choppy bobbing up and down.  This is what I would hope we could have everywhere.
