Started a Sage yesterday. Within 15 minutes of logging in on a Calpheon server, I was approached by a guild leader who recruited me and spent 20 minutes helping me out with basic stuff.
The game is gorgeous. I love the combat. My guildies helped me out with more questions later on in Guild Chat. I don't understand the folks complaining about the "toxic community". Perhaps their experience is simply different from mine, or they have different expectations. Either way, it's been a really good experience.
I wonder how long that impression will last. Still, good luck.
Typhical rookie, I wonder if you will be still there after a few months...
Like in almost every MMO, I believe a player's enjoyment largely revolves around the community (macro &/or micro) they find themselves a part of. It's wonderful to hear you found a great guild. Best of luck!

Who knows. The pvp community can be seen as "toxic", I guess, I mean, they're pvp-ers, right? So competitive banter and name calling is typical in pvp scenes. League of legends, Call of Duty, it just seems natural. Maybe that's what people refer to, world chat.
That and being able to be PK'd if you're in the open world. It can happen. But then things like swap server exist. Whether or not you find open world PvP OK or not, is up to you how you perceive it. For me, ow pvp, even losses, pushed me and motivated me to get stronger. Mechanically and gearwise. Some gets discouraged. Guess it's up to what you're made of.

There are some nice people here and there throughout the game for sure, but also plenty of toxicity and/or toxic people.
World/Server chat is pretty much plagued by it. There are gankers/griefers here and there who love to kill random people AFK traveling, minding their own business, and so on. And I'm not even going to get started on some of the forum responses here that I've seen.
Still, glad to see you're having fun. I enjoy the game a lot here, just not the people for the most part.
Glad you found a nice guild to help you enjoy this game.
You can safely ignore the resident haters in this topic. They lie in order to picture the community as toxic, but the truth is that there are nice people out there, who are welcoming and helpfull.
It's safe to assume since you're writing this, you fall in the category of:
You'll quit before you see anything toxic (good) and/or you'll never go anywhere near where the game "begins"
You'll never get to see the predatory monitization
You'll give the wrong idea to friends you might recommend this to
Good luck, have fun though :)
