Alchemy Tips and Tricks: XP and Traces

Good afternoon, Adventurers! Ambassador Blaqklight back again with some alchemy tips and tricks! Today we are going to discuss the fastest (and cheapest) way to get higher levels in alchemy and a few ways to get around the high-tier recipe bottlenecks. Let’s dive right in!

I am Artisan __ Alchemy, How Do I Get Higher?

Similar to cooking, Alchemy xp is gained by making different tiered recipes. You will get xp based on the required level and there are three distinct levels for Alchemy:

• Beginner: 400xp
• Apprentice: 800xp
• Skilled: 1200xp

Unfortunately, you do NOT get any exp boost for making any Professional or Artisan recipes. This feels like a favor more than an oversight, since Professional and Artisan recipes are immensely expensive and you wouldn’t be able to mass produce them anyway. Skilled recipes, even though they offer the highest level of xp, require fruits, oils, or essences, which makes them quite undesirable to try and craft…leaving us with beginner and apprentice recipes to level up. Not the best, but still doable.

If you are looking to afk/mass produce something, Clear Liquid Reagents are probably your best bet. I know they’re only Beginner 1, meaning they offer 400xp per, but the materials are easy to get, and you could pump out a high number of these with relative ease while keeping the cost down. From there, if you’re looking for a fantastic Apprentice recipe, CLR feeds beautifully into Sinner’s Blood, which only requires a little bit more effort in the form of gathering bloods (wolf and sheep work best here). You could also throw up a pre-order for the bloods and wait, if you are trying to min/max time input.

In conclusion, there is no “good” way to power-level alchemy, only a “cheaper” way. If you’re doing a ton of farming/gathering and have a lot of fruits laying around, feel free to check out some Skilled recipes for extra xp, but don’t count on those as your main form of xp.

Gated by Traces? So is everyone else!

As you reach higher levels in alchemy, you’ll notice that traces of __ become mandatory ingredients in every recipe you make. Some of them, like Trace of Chaos, Wave, and Despair, are fairly plentiful on the marketplace, while others like Trace of Ascension, Battle, Death, Violence, and Earth are few and far between. How do we combat this? Three ways:

1. Pre-orders. Kind of a no-brainer, but throwing up pre-orders for materials before you explicitly need them is a great way to stay on top of the game and keep yourself producing results as fast as possible.
2. Putting workers on nodes. Each trace has at least one node that you can put a worker on to farm for you around the clock, allowing you to get passive traces while afk, grinding, or whatever else you are doing. I’ve created a quick overview of nodes another document, please see this link for further information.
3. Daily Quest: A Simple Test from Dalishain. This is a daily, repeatable quest from Dalishain, the wandering alchemist, that grants 300 of various traces and some alchemy xp. I recommend doing this quest each day as these traces add up quite fast. 

Conclusion:

Overall, Alchemy is horrendously gated and it can be difficult to level up and find traces. While it may not be as fast as Cooking, with enough time and patience, Alchemy can be rewarding and fun. Good luck leveling and getting your traces! 

This is not a daily quest but a RNG quest (about 60-90 minutes while doing alchemie).

While you're around, allow me to ask this. How do you get the exchange option for the utensil repair tool with Dalishain?
I've looked around online and I just can't seem to find any answer online. Thanks in advance.

As I've understood it, you need to grab a max durabilty cooking/alchemy utensil of the same type and take it to the alchemy vendor(little girl who introduces us to Lightstones and who you pay to unveil the lightone drop for 20mil) if you have the utensil in your inventory, she wil have the "exchange" option which allows you to exchange the utensil for a reapair kit. After that, go back to your empty broken utensil, click the repair option(default F5) and click OK when the prompt tell you if you want to use the repair kit. 

You still need to buy/craft your own utensil, this just makes it so that you don't have to go and place a new one at your residence. 
(if you're able to repair supremes with advance utensils or something, please let me know how.. still trying to figure that one out) 

This what I've figured out TODAY since I had the same issue earlier and got to this point myself so I hope someone more knowledgable can come in and explain it properly

Pretty much spot on. You need to have the 'whole' utensil in your inventory for the exchange option to appear. The repair tools are lighter and repair already placed 'broken' workstations to max durability, so it's a convenience feature (can carry repair tools easier than multiple workstations, and don't have to fiddle with the house placement menu each time), but won't save money/resources as you still need one workstation for each charge of durability whether you repair an existing or remove and place a new one.

Supreme workstations can be traded for supreme repair tools via the same method. You need an advanced repair tool to recover dura on an advanced workstation and a supreme repair tool to recover dura on a supreme workstation, can't mix and match.
