I have a suggestion for a new concept/change in development priorities for Pearl Abyss, which I personally believe could improve BDO's health and longevity as a game. I am hopeing that if this post get's enough attention that Pearl Abyss will give this idea genuine consideration.

So Black Desert has been putting out classes at an impressive rate sense release. Settling at a steady pace of 2 a year ATM, with its 23rd class coming out on the 29th. This has given the game a colorful roster of fun characters to play, however, this has a noticeable drawback of class bloat, with many classes being left behind in one area or another. Especially with many being some variant of Melee Skirmisher, while most classes that break that mold are either weak, or absurdly broken.

I know that regular class releases are the backbone of Black Deserts Business model, and a core part of its identity, and frankly, I do not want this to change. I think the class releases are fun and exciting, and even when a new class gets added that I am not personally interested in like the Guardian, I get excited to see how this new character is going to shape the game and hyped for all the people who are looking forward to trying out the new class. However, I do wonder if there is a way to accomplish much the same effect, and result while slowing down the pace of Class releases and alleviating many of the issues caused by such regular releases.

The thing is, I think there is. There is one other similar game on the market, Warframe, and while it has many of its own issues, I think they handled this problem well. Like Black Desert Warframe has regular class releases, but also has regular class reworks/overhauls, which retool and update older classes. Now I know there are some issues with this model, but I do think it is the right path for Black Desert to take going forward.

As such here is my proposal. Roll back new class releases to once a year, and begin working on a new project, in the "spirit" of Awakening & Successions. called Rebirth, or Reawakening, or some such other sufficiently marketable name, which are effectively class Graphical/Gameplay Updates/Reworks/Overhauls (As Needed) designed to give older or struggling classes a new lease on life.

There are two ways Pearl Abyss could decide to pick which classes get Rebirths, chronological order, or by picking the class that is currently "struggling" the most (which can be determined either via looking at how many people are currently playing a class, or via popular vote). Ideally, we could get 2 Rebirths a year, one focused on updating an older class, and the other focusing on a struggling class. However, getting one a year would be nice enough.

The Class Rebirths could be heavily marketed with new leveling events which encourage players to level up the class, with concurrent special events of some manner for those who already have a character of that class at a higher level. New Hairs, Faces, and a new unique Pearl outfit being released for the class, ect.

Anyone else think this is a good idea? Questions, Feedback, Concerns?

Yeahhhh, idk kev.

They will "rework" the old classes but we all damn well know that they just are gonna tweak some numbers and ad/remove cc/protecions/buffs/debuffs, why waste brainpower on only classes when new ones get all the money.

I mean it takes a lot more effort to make a whole new class than it does to retool and tune up an old one.

If they where smart they could even announce the Rebirth up to a year ahead of time, so they can get as much feedback as possible from the community, while simultaniously drumming up the maximum amount of hype.

Thing is that's all some classes really need. On classes that are already solid, but old, they can focus more on polishing up their graphics and animations, while classes that need massive balance fixes could recieve a sorely needed comprehensive tune up.

These Rebirths would take less effort, and if done correctly could easily produce a comperable if not identical result. It's all a matter of smart marketing.

Sounds good to me. I'm still waiting for them to do something simple like fixing the body skin texture on the Dark Knight, for a while.

They need to stop releasing classes until they fix all the rest of the classes and have an actually balanced game both PVE and PVP. but that wont happen because they only care about the money people keep giving them for value packs..........

rework will be scary. every major overhaul so far completely messed up balance even more than before. 2018 cc changes left half of classes in a broken state, while other half was fine and they stopped what they started. pvp modifier patch randomly made some classes being tanks, while retaining attack power and mobility. succession just broke everything.

so when they announce now so many classes getting overhauls - that will never work, they can't even release ONE class being roughly within balance. it will be yet another start from scratch and take again many many months for further adjustments (if at all).

it would have been SO much easier to just tune down the few newer classes to a normal level, instead of thinking they could casually re-invent 20 old classes.

I do get what your saying. Still slowing down the class releases in order to get graphical updates, and maybe some mechanical tweaks could be quite beneficial.

I don't think I'd like to see any classes be fully "reimagined". I guess a lot of this leans on whether or not the company is willing to listen to it's fan base. Or put in the effort to decide exactly where they want classes to sit.

Balance wise they need to decide exactly where they want power levels to be, and decide what class they want to exist as the basic Template Class. Akin to Soul Caliber's Mitserugi, or Warframes Excalibur.

I like your idea.  But there's one thing I am persnally concerned about.......

One main thing, among many, that keeps me in BDO....a "Primary Pillar", so-to-speak, that keeps me engaged and passionate about this game is:   The Sorceress Class.

Her overall "feel".  Her mechanics.  Just, basically, how the class "feels" to play.  I don't care about her numbers as much as I care about her overall "feel" while playing her, so if class "rebirths" would be a thing............ Don't touch Sorc.

:) my only conern, but I think your idea would be great.  If they can maintain the overall feel of a class, while tuning up it's effectiveness in 2021 - 2022, then I'm all for it.

To the OP:

You need to start off by saying that you have an idea for a new concept. This kind of post will confuse new players.
