BDO developpers, please, PLEASE consider saving ALL the settings?!

EVERY time I make a new character I go through the frustration and difficult job of resetting all my hotkeys, clearing my UI, etc. Even tried (this time, with new Season Corsair) the "CUSTOM 2" that I had saved on the general settings home page on my main, and when I clicked to load it, nothing happened!

PLEASE consider having the game NOT revert to default upon new character creation, but rather whatever character you had played last? PLEASE consider a very simple "SAVE ALL SETTINGS" button, whether I have to download and upload it or not, I don't care... bu tsomething that saves ALL settings across all areas of settings? Pretty pretty please with sugar on top?

PS: also, I thought you could swap between season server and regular servers without the 15 minute delay. The game would not allow me to go back to my regular server from Season 2 (back out in the character selection screen, then backed out to server selection pre-character choice) for nearly 4 minutes. I waited out the time... when it was done I kept getting the pop up telling me to wait, so I had to FORCE CLOSE the game with CTRL-ALT-DEL and task manager. :/

(Bug report?)

Please fix this too and confirm whether or not swapping between season and non-season is supposed to be able to be done freely or not.

Thank you kindly.

Yeah, this is pretty atrocious, though this probably should go in the bug reports section. I find it hard to believe that this was on purpose rather than a bug. Honestly though, I would have thought that all of the non-character-specific settings (like the key bindings) would be global rather than per character, so how they handle settings is a bit poor in general IMHO.

BTW, if you're willing to mess around with the game's setting files, you don't have to redo everything for each new character. If you go to C:\Users\{your user name}\Documents\Black Desert\, you will find the game's settings files. Inside the FaceTexture folder, you can see image files for each of your characters. By looking at the names of the files, you can match up the settings ID of the character with the character's face. Then you'll need to go into the UserCache folder. Inside there, you will need the subfolder that contains gameVariable.xml and itemMarketFavoritesList.cache. On my system, it's 2921283, but I don't know if it's the same on everyone's system. Within that folder should be another folder. On my system, it's called 500. Inside that is another gameVariable.xml and a worker.cache file. However, more importantly, there is a folder there for each of your characters. Each folder has the same name as the corresponding image file in the FaceTexture folder. Inside each of those folders is a gameVariable.xml file which contains the settings for that character.

So, what I do when I create a new character is log in as that character so that their folder is created (though the FaceTexture image file isn't created immediately, so you'll have to know which folder is theirs based on which is the newest and empty). Then I copy the gameVariable.xml from one of my other characters to the new character's folder. This copies over all of the settings, including the quickslot bar settings (which may be a bit screwed up until you level that character enough to be allowed to customize the UI). It's also possible to copy just the key bindings by copying that section in the file (they're under the <ShortcutKey> tag), but since the file doesn't immediately exist for a new character, that probably only makes sense when you want to change a key binding and don't want to then log in to each character to fix it.

A character's gameVariable.xml is loaded when you log in as that character (possibly also when you switch servers, but I haven't experimented with that). So, either make those changes while the game isn't running and then start the game again, or go back to the character selection screen and select the character again (you might have to select a different character in between, but I don't think so). Once you've logged back in as that character, the key bindings should be fixed. And once you level up enough to be able to customize the UI, the UI should then be the way it is for your other characters.

YES! Exactly!

"BTW, if you're willing to mess around with the game's setting files, you don't have to redo everything for each new character. If you go to C:\Users\{your user name}\Documents\Black Desert\"

... I AM... :D

Yeah, I thought "saving" the presets or whatever would have saved that... I finally got it going but I had to make sure to RE-save (I'd previously saved my settings both around beginning of Autumn and Winter seasons, and probably again when Sage was released...) both the UI and the other settings separately....but loading them worked. Thanks for identifying the EXACT file. :D

YOU ARE A LIFESAVER! I will find and use this post in the future, if the devs don't do anything about this in a future patch first. <3

And yeah, I know you have to level to 7 before you can even talk in your guild chat (and I'm GM....! @_@) or general chat... So I'm always just killing wolves 'til level 7 before trying any of this.

But thank you again for this valuable step-by-step with filepaths! <3

Well, since I don't use a qwerty keyboard, it's basically impossible for me to even play until I fix my key bindings. So, I always have to fix them immediately.

LOL. I have to say that it's really bizarre design choice how they lock out so much up front - especially changing your UI. Fixing settings is one of the first things I do in any game. So, having stuff locked out in the beginning is just annoying. Fortunately, it doesn't last long. Either way though, the fact that key bindings aren't saved is a far bigger problem.

OOF! Dvorak? Or some foreign-language (non-English) keyboard? ... I've got Windows IME put Dvorak on my keyboard sometimes, but of course, it doesn't match, so it's really hard to learn. XD (Canadian English = Dvorak vs. U.S. English = QWERTY... XD also Japanese input...because I've been teaching myself the language since highschool, and using input since then too.

I use a Kinesis Advantage set to dvorak. And, LOL, no dvorak has nothing to do with Canadian anything. It's just an alternate keyboard layout with its own advantages and disadvantages. And actually, if I had my keyboard set to qwerty, I'd still need to rebind some stuff because of how your fingers line up with the keys and how it has a split layout, making it so that several keys go with your thumbs. Of course, using dvorak makes it worse, because then you have to remap just about everything, but PA makes it even worse by making several keys unmappable (e.g. I need to use the period key for moving forward, and the game won't let you map the period key for some reason). So, I actually have to take advantage of the programmability of my keyboard and switch to a slightly altered layout in order to be able to remap the keys that I need, which then forces me to switch layouts whenever I use chat or anything else that isn't the game proper. It's all quite annoying, but at least I've managed to make it work.

Oh wow.......really???
I thought it was just me.   I'm NOT the only one having a problem saving my keyboard configuration!!
Well....THAT's a relief.   Oh.......no - no it isn't!!!
I've only just started playing this game and can't wait to get the gameplay knowledge down.  The only problem i have is that it seems to be a real issue just saving the progress & settings.  Prey tell......why the hell can't everything simply be saved all at once?
This is such a lush, beautiful piece of video gaming art.  Challenging, as much as it is fun.  And stunningly gorgeous to look at.
The only flaw is this "saving" issue. I mean....who wants to spend 20 minutes resetting all of your hotkeys each time you play?

It's the only thing that pushes me away and i end up back at SWTOR....or Elder Scrolls.......or even Neverwinter.
At least i can just jump in and play without the frustration.

with how often settings get reset, this is very needed. please also save workers, having to redo workers especially at 400+ cp is not fun
