OTP - One-Time Password or 2-step Verification

Hello! I am here to tell you all about what OTP is and how to set it up. This is an optional function you can use but it gives you two things:

1. You get a +5% drop rate. (Currently this event is Permanently On-going)

2. It gives your account double the security. 

What is OTP?

"A One-Time Password, also referred to as OTP, is a “dynamic/temporary” password that is valid for one login. Instead of a static or fixed password, it is a randomly generated dynamic/temporary password that was created to mitigate the risk from using the same password repeatedly. Although there are some hurdles with the set up and authentication, this is still a reliable way to keep your account safer!"

Whenever you are logging into your Pearl Abyss account on both the website and the launcher, you will need to put in this randomly generated code for your account. For this you will need an application that gives you such a code. There are multiple applications you can use on your phone, personally I use Google Authenticator for multiple OTP setups. Some top google results gave these:

• Google Authenticator: Best overall.
• LastPass Authenticator: Runner up.
• Microsoft Authenticator.
• Authy: Best multi-device solution.
• Yubico Authenticator.
• Titan Security Key.

Any of these applications should do fine. 

How to set up OTP?

1. Login to the Pearl Abyss website and go to your OTP settings web page.

Account > Account Security Center > OTP Settings > BIG BLUE GO BUTTON!

2. Click on <SIGN UP FOR OTP> and login again.

Yes, it's normal that you have to login again.

3. Accept the <I READ ALL AND I AGREE>, then <SIGN UP FOR OTP> again.

4. Scan the QR code after you launched the Authenticator APP or put in the password manually.

5. Install an Authenticator app and confirm the code at the bottom. (Google Authenticator is advised, I personally use that as well)

6. BACKUP THE BACKUP CODES! This is very important. Store these somewhere safe. (I have had multiple occasions where I had to contact support, because I lost these codes!)

7. DONE! Enjoy grinding with the extra drop rate!

This is how you successfully set up the OTP service.

Isn't it a huge pain to use? like, will it ask you to get your phone everytime you launch the game/conenct website?
or will it have some sort of cookies system where it lets you logged in on the same computer for a while?

Not working for me. And yes, I did set up the OTP system as I should, because I'm asked for the password whenever I log in.

Yeah, you have to pull out your phone every time you login. I don't understand why they can't just save your IP/Computer like 99% of all other programs (League, Steam, Epic, Blizzard, Discord, etc) after inputting in a OTP.

For the website it does have some sort of cookie system where it saves your login credentials if you remembered your information, just remember that this is less secure. You do have to use it for the launcher, but who logs out of BDO anyway? Right? Hehe.

Is this resolved? You should relog after activating it and then it should activate. Remember that the PC Registration does not activate the 5%, as mentioned somewhere in-game. This was an error.

Having a compromised account is way more painfull imho.

Giving out your personal information from your phone to an unknown 3rd party that may use the data to whatever extent they feel necessary and potentially sell your information is more painfull imho.

If you read the agreement carefully you are giving them full permission to do exactly that.  It includes verbiage such as "there may be data usage".  This isn't about game security.

They should sticky this.

For people with minimal education "data usage" means your cellphone will consume some data in order to access the network.

For people your kind it means whatever random nonsense you usually produce when "contributing" to any topic related to technology.

Case in point, and once again, educated people know that OTP technology doesn't involve any personal data.
