I have played this game on and off since it was launched. I ws always brought back by the diversity of the different areas within the game and its stunning graphics as well as the stories within the game. I enjoy PvE content and wanted to play the main quests until I got to re-awakening.
I think I passed that stage though without realising. I thought something big was going to happen, the last time I checked the quest menu in game, the main quests show another 200 plus quests still to do and I am level 58.
The one thing that frustrates me about the game is that you cant really set goals because everything goes on forever. Quests go on forever there just does not seem to be an end goal that you can make. I just wanted to complete the main quest line and then start doing some local quests for people in the towns and villages and working on the Amity part of the game.
Because of this never ending cycle I have become unmotivated.
Well if just doing the main quest line is problematic for you, then you better quit now, it will only going to be worse...
The problem I had was I never knew when the main questline ended. I seemed to be doing main quests given to me by the black spirit and I thought I had to complete these to complete the main quest line. So I checked in the quest menu and there's still another 200 to do.
THe one in the yellow rectangle bellow your minimap is the main quest line.
The mainstory line is not a compulsory questchain to complete, it does pose benefits for completion but is not required to enjoy other aspects of the game.
Thanks for your replies guys!

Yeah, the game has a looot of quests. Over 30K quests, there's even a title you get if you complete 30,000 quests. Let me say that again.....for doing thirty THOUSAND quests. And this is only the tip of the iceberg in this game...there are other things that take forever, seemingly no-end, like gaining combat EXP. At level 64, I barely get any EXP, and there are people who are level 66+ already. Leveling is literally forever...since there is no hard-cap, or, the hard-cap is set soooo high that no one will achieve it, realistically.
200 quests is a drop in the bucket. Level 62 is typical. 63 and 64 aren't that amazing. You can have 700 gear score and still have gear-gains to gun for.
"The Adventure Never Ends". Isn't that BDO's slogan, or something? And that's the kicker....this game's "allure"....is this concept of a never-ending "Adventure" (AKA grind, IMO). BDO is a long-term focused game, who will benefit those who stick around, remain consistent, and keep grinding something the most. For players who wish for a quick, dopamine filled experience, there is Seasonal Servers. It basically is the BDO-monster-farming-and-gear-enhancing-and-OWPVP+RBF experience in a nutshell. It's great for the casual experience, like, play Seasons for a few months, get hard-capped Season gear, play on Season Arsha and do Season RBF, when Season ends, quit the game, wait for next Season to start over again. Some people like the game that way, a short-term experience. But for those who seek a long-term MMO to call home, I believe BDO is a great option. Lots of freedom (do what I want, when I want atmosphere), individual agency, not forcing you to rely on others if you don't want to, and great feeling PvP.
"The one thing that frustrates me about the game is that you cant really set goals because everything goes on forever."
We are on opposite sides of the fence. Being that "everything goes on forever", doesn't that imply that goals get set constantly? For example, my current goal is four more AP. And once I get that, I'll set a new gear goal. And once I get that, another one will be set. Then rinse and repeat. I have many goals set in BDO, and after knocking out that goal, it's on the next one. So kind of unsure what you mean by "you can't set goals because it goes on forever". Maybe you're chasing the finish-line. In BDO, it's more about the Adventure itself (the grind) than the finish-line, because in this game, there really isn't a clear finish-line to see. Unlike typical MMO's where it's like, "Get BiS gear and wait for the next expanison", BDO always has something for you to chase.
Absolutely get that, so my goal is to complete (should I use that word) or finish the main quests being given to me by the black spirit and continue exploring and doing the pve content.
