BDO engine is already the most optimized one on the market for a mmorpg with this fast-paced gameplay.
must stop believing that Unreal engine is a good engine especially for massive. Stop eating marketing.
Just to have BDO optimization on unreal lengine you would have to remove 95% of the engine code and start almost from zero. Like did NCsoft with the unreal engine 2.0 with Lineage 2.
There are doac (2001), L2 (2003), Eve (2003) and Planetside 2 (2012) then AA(2013) (Cry engine 3 modified)
and bdo that realy supported decent massive pvp,

Tera,GW2 are completly shit with just 100-300 player its a complete slideshow. and server shit itself.

It is only the homes engine or extremly modified open source engine which manage to break the 1000+pvp, the last 20 years prove it.

You ask for better for something that is already the best in term of graphical/massive... very bad idea to go for the new engine of Pearls Abyss for Crimson desert while this engine is certainly optimized for this one - aka a single player game. you do not code the same when you take into account an open world and massive scale aspect.

Go play Sword of Legend mass pvp for fun and you will understand how unreal engine without extreme modification ( aka delete 95% of the engine code) is big shit.

and you cannot export a game made on a home engine on the unreal engine. it is strictly impossible.

To redo BDO on the unreal engine is to redo the game in its entirety, and in addition it is a monster relearning of the developers to learn the coding of the Unreal Engine.
And with BDO gameplay. I tell you right away that more than 20 players are going to ram asfuck. not for nothing that 95% of mmorpgs are slow-past cucul la praline.

You do realize that they used a very old version of unreal engine right? Unreal Engine 5 is entirely different than what it was with unreal engine 2. Like I said, Unreal engine 5 supports up to about 1000 concurrent users at once and there would be significantly less desync due to the game engine's optimization thanks to lumens and nanite.

You can write your own pipe code, you're not limited to just what unreal engine has to offer, you can write your own network code. This is what I'm getting at. 1000 concurrent users (about) is amazing, a single server can only support about 200-300 anyway, so you would need somekind of server mesh code to support more users regardless.

People can bash Unreal all they want for MMO use but it's honestly one of the most viable ones out there these days. You just don't know.

 

But I digress, to OP's point. There's a 0% chance it will ever happen because it would require them to basically remake the entire game which would make no sense. They're better off making a brand new MMO with it instead since BDO's reputation is very poor.

I would also like to see BDO in Unreal Engine 5. I was over hyped when they said they will release BDO remake in new engine. Now with this new remake the graphics are still stunning to see. I would really really love to see BDO another Visual Update.

Unreal engine doesn't works for MMORPG's, never was and never will be, its good for single/max to ~30players games, after that its sh*t show slide show where FPS drops dead to zero. Also its not free, why would company pay money if they have their own engine.
