As a new player, i think the combat system of bdo is great, i will not comment a lot about end game etc, becuase i still haven't reached it, but so far the combat is great, but i think it could actually be even better, we will see when i reach end game.

Yea it's pretty good. Awakening and succession really brings it up. However, the combat also has many issues. Everybody is super mobile, first to engage wins and all you do is fish for cc's.

yea the ones who are supposed to be mobile aren't that much but overall everybody zooms around the battlefield in a short enough time.

Let's assume this system was ideal and fine, i don't think it is but let's just say so for the sake of the argument. 
CCs are not guaranteed. You press a button that says it does something and the game says lol no, the enemy does the same but the game arbitrarily says come right in. He wins. Except for V-ing out there is no chance to do anything one you got engaged on (and v has such a long cd that it can't be used more than once) I don't know if you played c9 but that game had 3 cc breaks on demand depending on your situation.

One cc and die only would be aceptable if cc's would be a limited rescource.

But in bdo literately every second ability have a cc on it, and they have low cd usually with extremely high AOE radious, with no rescource managment of any kind. That's nobrainer.

 

Not to mention "nice" features like dashing into los, just to get pulled back into a grab due to desync....

I like the mobility, the action combat is super good, but at first glance i can tell that this game might be extremely bursty in pvp, as most asian mmos are, that is something i do not like, there is no real skill in killing someone just because you were able to hit first, or because you got the cc, and killed someone in a single gcd.

 

Aside from that, it seems this game suffers from other asian mmo things, like i think it used to be p2w, at least a lot more than it does now, so good that they somewhat fixed that, there also seems not not be a lot of end pve end game content, and in general way too much grinding, i like the skills, and the fact that you can get a lot of skillpoints, but is it really necessary to have afk griding and all that? Come on. This is just at first glance though, personally i wouldn't have bought this game if it wasn't for the extremely cheap price i found it for.

 

I just wish other mmos would take inspiration from bdo combat style.

 

I like the black spirit rage combat abilities, but there should be no 200 % requirement, that is pretty bad, and expand it to all abilities, also for the sake of more combos, it would be nice to see ,more skills like flow: illusion detonation, or atomagia etc, basically skills that are dependant on using another skill first, it would create some wonderful combos, even better than now.

 

That's about it, anyway sage looks sick, of all the gameplay trailers i have seen, sage looks the best, which is honestly one of the reasons why i picked it, it also seems to be quite powerful so... winner winner.

 

One thing that i noticed in asian mmos is that they have extremely cool base ideas, like upgrading your gear, which is cool, but then they throw a wrench in it, in this case rng, in the hope that this will make you spend money to make your progression go faster. So basically design something really cool, and throw a wrench in it, so the base idea is good, but damaged by a problem that is clearly artificial, what is the reason for having rng on your upgrades? None other than slowing down your progress in hope that you will spend money.

I'm going to go ahead and be nice because you are new, so here you go

 

1) "there is no skill in hitting first or because you got the cc.

- then you should have no trouble hitting the first CC. 1v1 means little to nothing in BDO and the only people who really care about it are the BA rats or people who aren't very bright to begin with. That being said, there's a lot more skill involved than i think you're giving it credit for. Now, 1vX and group pvp are where the stand out players are.

 

2)  p2w

-everyones opinions on what constitutes "p2w" is different. Personally, I think the game is p2w, but the price is pretty prohibitive. 

There are some "cheap" p2w things that are accessible to the vast majority of working class people who are willing to pay for them and very little is actually necessary these days.

 

3) wishing other games copied bdo combat

- me too

 

4) black spirit rage skills

- 200% were meant to be "game changers" but in the end, its too easy to get black spirit rage.

4.1) more bsr skills

- bsr skills are already super strong, we don't need more of them. A possibility could be slotting BSR skills, but as seen with core skills, it could likely break the game. And it almost never ends up in a "fighting style choice" and more of a "slot this skill or youre trolling"

 

5) sage

-sage eating nerf next week. May the odds be ever in your favor

 

6) rng

- if there was no rng in the game, progression would probably have gotten stale 3 years ago, to be honest. And this is coming from a guy with moderately bad luck. The excitement from hitting shit really tickles the gamble bone. If you dont want to gamble, basically everything in the game is readily available on the market. Just save and buy

 

6.2) monetization

-Say what you will about monetization, but its gotten way better over the last 2 years. Most companies do exactly what PA does. Apple comes to mind immediately. Yet there they are....

The suggestion about bsr is mostly about how cool they are, they have a different animation, and ofc, they should be balanced, but what i would personally really like is more skills like atomagia, basically a followup to a certain skill, i think they should try to extend that to every base skill just because they make super cool combos,  i think they should remove the 200 % bsr skills, and rebalance them, but keep the animation.

 

About the no skills, it's because i don't like extremely bursty pvp, it was honestly just a guess on how the pvp might be, it wasn't anything serious, as i noticed that many asian mmos have extremely burst oriented pvp, like 1 skill and dead, for example, i remember archeage, if it's anything like that i am not gonna like it.

 

About sage, how are they gonna get nerfed? One other thing, are there any advantages to slotting skills? Like damage advantages? Personally i just use combo triggers.

 

And about rng, i am personally not a big fan, i rather just have gear that you change and get new and better one, but please no unmitigated rng when upgrading. Anyway if it's possible to just buy it's not such a big deal, so as long as there are mitigating factors it's fine.
