I always tried to do RBF even when under geared (been going at it since 500gs and now with 610gs). Its very fun to experience a battleground with a lot of people, but RBF as is now its way too imbalanced. Not only the fact that there is a mix of very geared people and ungeared people, but the matchmaking, the balance between the number of people in each team, the way each team is formed (one team could have a lot of geared people vs a complete undergeared one), etc. The system that holds RBF should change, it needs to improve not only providing a few RBF servers for undergeared people, but for all people to have more "fair" matches (considering number of people in each team, gearscore, etc). Some improvements that I think of could be:
- Better matchmaking: Balance the way the teams are formed, considering number of people that keeps joining the match (I think it adds 3 or 4 for each side as now), gear score, and maybe some kind of mmr so that there is a balance between experienced and new players.
- Adding RBF servers for undergeared people: This could be formed as 3 tiers -> one for highend players without any caps, one for medium geared (could be softcap or around 600 gs), and one for undergeared people (around 550 or less). Now, this doesn't mean that people can't join one or another, just that each RBF server should hold some kind of limitation (just how is being applied in node wars and siege), but the player has the freedom to chose where to participate without being overwhelmed by an unbalanced system.
- Adding a score panel: Like many other games, one would like to know how is performing in the battleground so adding a window which holds information about me and my teammates as well as the enemy (using a camouflage suit would show the "unknown adventurer" text instead of the player family name) would be very useful. It could work like the window from the guild panel where it shows the performance of guildmates in a node war. Could be added instead of the rbf menu so that when you click that button inside of a match it shows the information updating in real time (kills, deaths, points holded) and also have a button in this panel to leave the match.
- Having penalties for leaving a match: as now, since matches are so unfair sometimes, people just leave the match without considering that their team will be decimated by the camping of the winning team, because there is no penalty. Now, obiously its a consequence of the unbalanced system (which in this cases the winning team is overly geared and have many veteran players at their disposal), but still since people have the option to leave and join a new match they would not think twice. Having some kind of deserter mark that doesn't allow the person to join a new match if they abandoned their team (with some time considerations) would motivate people to find a way to win with their team. Now, as I said, this is a consequence of the unbalanced system, so the RBF matchmaking should be first improved for this to also work accordingly.
- Better rewards: This is an already spoken topic, but still needs to be considered. People mostly join RBF because its somewhat fun (even with the actual unfair system) and it should hold some type of reward equal to the amount of time invested. Its quite weird to have poor rewards when doing content that is fun, so maybe raising a bit more the silver compensation for winning and losing could improve the motivation for participating in RBF (the dust for caphras was a nice reward but since it's a daily it only motivates people to do rbf once a day).

- Allowing teams to join a match: in the actual system it would just bring more imbalance, but having the chance to go into the battlefield with your friends its a very important part of the mmo experience. If the RBF system is improved then it would be awesome to have the possibility to join a match with a group of friends (maybe limiting it to 3 or 5 party members). Some considerations should be taken tho, in order to not allow some type of abuse or advantages in numbers (maybe adding some random factor when joining an ongoing match for the tier of RBF selected).

- Finally, motivate participation: it applies to any new content you add (like atoraxxion dungeon, altar of blood, RBF, etc) but there should be some kind of pvp (pve) season (like the one you mentioned in heidel ball) where there is a point system that shows the families participating and contributing in that content (like a leaderboard), and at the end of it there will be rewards distributed for participating and reaching higher ranks. This would be nice to have after the whole RBF system (and many others) are improved/reworked and rewards are improved accordingly. Including new content is fine but the lack of motivation to do it is what leaves it unused.
Hope this suggestions helps to improve the RBF system and the enjoyment of this content that is one of the fun activities to do for people who enjoy pvping.

Score board should be added yes, with damage done, k/d/a and points earned/lost.

But there is already around 2 rbf runing at a given time. Spliting that to 3 bracket would be a sure way to kill it even more.

Party join should not be allowed, it woudl be toxic af.

Yeah the "matchmaking" which is not matchmaking at all, is severely bugged. You can clearly see how low quality their devs are here really. It's especially hilarious when the 60player rbf have 78 players in it.

Yes, I agree that some suggestions right now wouldn't be viable, but if the important changes are applied (matchmaking specially) and people become motivated to participate on it (maybe with the seasons rewards) then those could also be applied to improve the matches fairness and enjoyment a bit more.

If they would be forced to do it (rewards that you talk about) people would just afk it out, or worse suicide run to not get kicked out.

Also bdo have way too low palyerbase to make matchmaking work. There is simply not enough players to make mmr work, it's simply not possible.

While RBF is not that bad, it's still not fun for most players, and even with gear caps it wouldn't change much (especially since you can just get trial and go into RBF if your only issue would be gear)

LOL RBF.  Our ONLY queueable PvP mode, and it's pretty s***.  Spawn camping fiesta some matches.

Spirit of Battle is something NO ONE asked for.  Yet they put it in node wars, which is actually worse than Protected Area pre-nerf.  At least with PA, there was an element of strategy, shotcalling, teamwork and stuff.  SoB, comes up, you just push.  No strategy, and it is better than Protected Area because you can't get CC'd with the buff.  No one asked for it -- yet here we are, they nerfed Protected Area, and an even worse Spirit of Battle buff.  Causing whole guilds refusing to push without it being up, only engaging with the buff on a 5 min cooldown.

They shoulda put Spirit of Battle in RBF on top of your great suggestions.  I would like to be able to Q up with a small group of friends on the same team too.
