I think I have spent about $40 dollars on dyes. It doesn't matter what color you choose, they all end up looking either off white or some funky day-glo rave colors. They sell random dye but what is the point in that? You can buy purple dyes and end up with sunshine indigo, sky indigo, brilliant purple, and so on. Last month I placed orders in the central market for 40 different colors, I got 2 this month. If that is the trend, it could end up being several years before all my orders get filled. If you pay for dye, you should get to pick the color, random dyes should be for quests and other freebie events.
I know, they want us to pay $15 per month for VP, and use Merv's palette. Thanks but no thanks!
Have fun!
Unfortunately, the dye purchase system is an absolute embarrassment to PA as a company. It is blatantly solely a money-grabbing scheme, arguably the worst in the game. I would recommend you steer completely clear of it. It's simply atrocious.
Now alternatively Value Packs are often on sale. I know you mentioned you are opposed, but I would recommend using them. If you are discerning you can keep them active for significantly less than $15/month. Keep an eye out for discounts; on the pack itself, on pearls, etc.
I was given a few VPs when I started the game, I purchased another and used it. I now just collect my loyalty and buy those 1 day value packs. I know there are buffs in there, but I don't use them most of the time to be of any benefit. The way I see it, $180 per year is too much for just wanting Merv's palette to be active. Also Merv's pallette doesn't contain all the dye, it is only a selection.
Pearl Abyss could make more of a profit (my opinion), from players such as myself, if they sold the dye box as a choice pack and not random mystery meat. Sure, this means I buy my dyes one time only and don't need Merv's palette. I would be more receptive to spend more money on other items. The idea I feel cheated by a random number generator on a purchased product, does not make me want to spend more. In fact, it makes me question, what else I don't want to buy from them. What other items in that pearl shop have hidden RNGs hooked to them? What will they change about the costumes after I made my purchase? If I buy clothing for myself at the store and take them home, they sure don't magically change color or randomize the accessories.
Just putting a bug in the developers ear.
Have fun!
Yeah the whole dye system is bad and limited.
They said planing to add something limited RGB coloring in somewhere, but that was for charcter skin if I remember correctly.
Not like it would be hard to implement an RGB picker and texture coloring based on that, like Lost Ark have that (but probably many more game aswell).
Have fun!
The new and improved Merv's palette sure is nice. What about the permanent dyes we purchase? This is rental dye, you end up paying up to $180 per year to look good. Meanwhile players buying the dye packs don't get to chose their colors at all. Red Dye Pack will be mixed with other random colors. The last I counted, I have about 30 permanent dyes in my palette and out of the 40 I requested on the Central Market, 36 orders are still out. Since August I received 4 dyes for silver, about 2 per month average, I am hoping it will increase as we get closer to the shopping season.
Don't read me wrong, I like the change made to enhance the Merv rental dye. I just wish the PA team would have considered the same for players who spend pearls on dye packs. All they need do, when a player opens a red dye pack is lock the sliders and allow them to adust the shade dark red to light red. Maybe a little wiggle between orange and purple, but when I buy red, I mean red and not snow indigo.
The whole idea that you can't use Merv's palette on a piece of costume that has had a perm dye applied to it is downright dumb.
It's only a mechanic so people (WHO ALREADY PAID FOR A MERV PALETTE OR A VP) are forced to buy bleach. You should only need to buy bleach if you want to apply another permanent dye.
We should just pay to unlock it permanently. I would pay and I know others that would too.
