So I was at work today and opened the Black Desert main page to read up on the new patch information like I always do. And to my surprise I saw that PA was doing a gathering event. My jaw just about hit the floor because its been over 20 months since a real gathering event. Afterall I was the one who made memes about it on the regular and even have a series going. That series is still going. 

After work I was excited to play some BDO because I am a 2000 mastery gatherer who lumbers everyday as part of a routine I have in-game. I quickly got online and started getting prepared to do my wood-wacking music filled session of BDO gathering. Immediately I was confronted by other players in chat being salty, saying the drop rate of the event item "Golden Amber" was low and basically a waste of time.

I thought to myself, "Nah, they don't have the 140 billion silver and 1000+ hours invested like I do to get the 2000 mastery, I'll be fine and get some event drops". I could not be more wrong...

I spent 1 hour and 45 mins chopping trees and did'nt get a single one. 

I guess mastery does not have an effect on the event. Maybe PA can give us some details on the event page in the coming days.

I guess I'll be making some fire memes on this kind of brutal betrayal to the life-skillers. I'll start working on part 7 and part 8, afterall this gave me some ammo. 

I got 1 amber in an hour gathering sap and I got a report of another player that got 3 in an hour hunting (what they were hunting wasn't specified).

it said water gather dig or milking for the items nothing else. doubt u can get it with lumber didnt say that was in it for the notes i could be wrong but that would make there post invalid

You read patch notes wrong.

You got that backwards. It says "The event item cannot be obtained from Water Scooping, Digging with a Shovel, or Milking." It's the same with pretty much any event that has an item randomly drop from gathering.

In any case, as with most everything in this game, whether the Golden Insect Amber drops is RNG, and at 10 million silver apiece, you can be sure that the drop rate won't be high enough that you're guaranteed to get many per hour. You can likely get multiple per hour or go hours without getting any. And the drop rate may or may not be affected by gathering mastery. I expect that anyone looking to get many of them without spending many hours gathering is going to be frustrated.

I'll ask where they were hunting as soon as possible.

I want the announcements page to feature a new detail:

"Mastery does not effect this event item, so fuck right off mate"

It could also feature this new information too:

"This item is a catch-up mechanic. So all the older players will not be getting any, sorry."

A little bit of transparency would be nice.

PA thinks that 10 million is a lot. 700 energy = 1 amber for me.

Weren't you supposed to quit for New World which is supposedly so superior ROFL.

So the report came from feather wolves. Same player reported next hour getting no ember at same location.
