BDO and "forced" emotes

As most ppl are probably aware of already BDO has a lot of emotes triggering all willy-nilly when you go about your regular activities in the game. Cheering when you loot some blue crap from mobs, hard/sharp shards and a whole range of other more rare items ranging from specters energy to map/compass pieces. I wish for an option to disable these pretty much daily as I feel them to be nothing more than an interruption on the gameplay.

One in particular that isnt as common but much more dangerous is that whenever I've looted one of those area-specific marni stone boxes my char got stuck in a looting animation that lasted for over a minute. Not rly a big deal in many areas with weak mobs but in harder areas where mobs you looted the item from respawns and start wacking at you while you helplessly sit and wait for the animation to be over with it can end badly. Sometimes spamming the V button frees you from the clutches of improper game design but often times not.

Today however while I was talking in guild chat I noticed my character doing this silly thing:

Character was just standing like this for a while until I made a movement input and after about 0,5 seconds I could move normally again. I mentioned this in the guild chat and was told it was a new emote they added recently.

It was at this point I remembered that the game actually has a Social Action menu. I went and opened it (mustve been a year or 3 since the last time) and after scrolling through I did find the new emotes at the bottom.

The Keyword being just a capital O means that if you simply type "BDO" in the guild chat it will trigger this emote. I did go through and remove all these keyword triggers way back but I had not thought about newly added emotes getting their own new keywords. I continued to look through the emotes to see if there was any other keywords I had forgotten to remove and it was at this particular emote the revelation hit me:

I went to look it up on an item DB to make absolutely sure of what was going on:

So what this all means is that whenever I got a marni box drop and linked it in the guild chat, as one tends to do with rare item drops, the word "Research" in the item name triggered this long-ass uncancelable reading emote!

I was equal amounts baffled at how people with any form of game design knowledge could approve of these types of chat-triggered emotes in the first place as I was happy that I found a solution to this long standing issue on my marni box hunt. Hopefully this story helps someone else that also dislike these emotes and now know how to get rid of them or at least felt the story a lil bit funny.
