So I cleared Elvia Sycrakea today and I wanted to share some feedback regarding my experience with BDO's 2nd dungeon. 

 

Preface: I had a ton of fun with this one and it felt way more like a "dungeon" than the first one.

 

The first 3 bosses have interesting and fun mechanics that contribute to the enjoyment of the first clear of the dungeon. That being said, it's somewhat frustrating that every single clear requires completing all 3 bosses (which takes about 40-60 minutes) leading up to the final boss - and I can understand some people's frustration with the 2 hour time limit in the final boss room given the length of the bosses leading up to it. Additionally, I can't ever see myself doing this weekly like the first dungeon because it takes around a full hour at minimum for a perfect run, and more often than not it will take much longer because of how easy it is to trip up and fail in the final boss room. The first dungeon takes about 25 minutes for a perfect clear and many people are willing to do it for the weekly, but I doubt it will be the same for Sycrakea. I hope future patches will add items exclusive to each dungeon (outfits, furniture items, special titles). 

 

Some of the mechanics outside of the boss room can be cheesed. For example the lasers can be bypassed using a variety of methods including esc esc, teleport res, blocks, iframes, V's and whatnot. Not sure if it's intentional, but it's both kind of nice and weird at the same time.

 

The final boss is the highlight of this dungeon and shows the effort that has been put in. If the first dungeon was the "safe" approach, then Syrakea's final boss embodies a new level of combat variety that's interesting and innovative. I don't think it pushes the limits of what can be done with BDO's combat, but it definitely introduces new and interesting ways of playing the game. That being said, it can still be polished. Certain mechanics like the lantern fish glowing or the squid laser beam have difficult/buggy indicators that could be improved. There are some straight up "bugs" including lighting prisons spawning on people during cutscenes and killing them. I believe the lightning prisons should have a "spawning" indicator to let classes with fewer protected movement abilities be able to dodge them.

 

Overall, a very fun dungeon and I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what the next 2 will showcase.

 

Positives: Lots of interesting boss and field mechanics, a very challenging final boss room, reasonable rewards (for first time clear), and overall very fun experience.

 

Negatives: Some issues with mechanics being visually unclear, rewards for weekly clears seems lackluster compared to first dungeon.

Good analysis. I've gotten to the final boss bu haven't completed it yet as it is crazy tough, and dude that's normal server D:

So I can't imagine what the elvia one is like 🤣 however I do think the 'normal version' needs to be scaled down, and yes the rewards for the second dungeon should be a bit better. Like that statue. Let us normal peeps have it too :P XD

 

As for the time, maybe as we adjust and get used to the mechanics we'll (bdo players in general) be able to clear it quicker. Vaha is already a piece of cake, and even though Syca is really tough, I personally believe in no time there will be some experts at it as well ;D

I did a quest run which wasn't complete due to lack of time and I got good impressions on the dungeon overall: fights are more interesting and fun than first dungeons and puzzles are rather challenging.

 

No idea about last boss fight since we hadn't enough time to practise and pass phase 2 but mechanics looks promising.

I really hope  they just focus on focusing bugs, not being able to see which Fish is the right one or what I had today the boss just DESPAWNING after one of the mechanics and no way of continuing the run is just something that should be fixed asap. I really love the mechanics of this Boss and hope they keep designing the next dungeons in this way.
(But until they fix bugs that ruin a clear instantly with no chance to recover I'll not advice people to run it)
