There are a lot of games like BDO already on the market, it might be that you haven't heard of it.
could you name some with a combat system like BDO?

I'm pretty sure you find a many game on the market with constant desync, extreme inbalances, and gearchecking, if that's what you enjoy.

played any hack and slash game? don't act like bdo is some revolutionary combat, its button mashing with flashy animations, you had that on ps2 with dmc, at least that's the 1st I played.
There's no need to be a gatekeeper with the "don't like it, go play something else" attitude. I'm here for an intellectual discussion about the future of BDO and perhaps what they can do to save themselves. Being a gatekeeper only makes this community worse than it already is. We can be better than that, right?
Maybe it sounded more harsh than intended.
However here's the fact: a game cant completely change itself to survive because it will simply die faster.
During years of activity, BDO catered to a specific type of gamers, the new ones(myself) also chose the game because of the thing that differs from competitors.
So.
BDO "to survive" shouldnt try to compete with FF or WoW or GW2 or others on their playground....BDO should simply improve itself on its main features...and we already had that, great QoL changes, we will have more and you should simply wait for them.
What can save BDO? Nothing.
Every game has been created on its own themes and systems, you cant change them, you can simply refine them or maybe add something here and there (halloween event, sycrakea dungeon, etc). If players dont like these themes and systems, no way to change that, following new players too far will drag you away from your solid playerbase.
So, back to the point, you cant wait for BDO to change itself to fight back competitors on their ground...if you like BDO, you have reasons to be happy right now with all changes done and coming. If they are not enough, well, it will always be this way, maybe this game is not for you.
HAHAHA funny thread reading it now.
All my friends already are coming back from NW. Only took a few weeks for the reality to set in.
That's what happens when you only have 3 active skills, 3 on swap.
Like 4 mob types and nearly zero end game.
PA is not worried at all. They keep pumping good QOLS readying for new content next year.
Hello no IMPerial vendor limit!

Spoken like someone who doens't know how to play. Have you even mastered ONE class properly? All it's cancels, knowing it's SA rotation, how to cancel out gaps in SA, mouse movement tricks, knowing all other classes gaps and weaknesses?
Saying BDO is button mashing just screams to me you have no learnt anything at any decent level. Because it's completely the opposoite of what you said.
BDO has probabyl the best or top 3 comabt systems currently in mainstream MMOing. Sorry you have to project.
The combat has a huge cap on many classes, great animations, it's weighty, and represents fantasy action-combat perfectly.
The combat in BDO is trash but don't expect it to last long. half my former guilds mainly pvp ones quit for good one having a cah whale who spends about 5k a month in the CS between 2 accounts. he now sold the accounts .
some former guild had a good 80 members half of which are heavy cash users now gone/moved much like they said BDO isn't fun its a AFK MMO Nothing else one did an enchant frenzy over 400b in silver he wasted for lulz and gave his account away after which he is half pen and the rest is Tet and seeing as he's one lucky few rolling with max mastery yeah idk how people can say this games gonna live long when lot of the former diehards quitting for good but hey .
i myself left I spent a few grand between my 2 accounts I own and I don't plan to return myself now. this games a chore its not remotely fun its in the same boat as WoW to grindy and no fun.
Anyway acording to steam the pop is at the lowest since PA takeover. Probably with the free PEN patch it will jump up a little though.
Look like I was wrong. A week passed and the guaranteed PEN ain't increased the player count by anything lol
Heck, it soon falls below pre PA era player numbers XD

BDO combat system is more like a fighting game than a hack and slash.

You mean the 15k players based on steam charts only?
Many games would be more than happy with such a "failure".

So some diehards and big spenders decided to leave...
And?
You think they're the first ones?
LOL, not a single one of the games mentioned here have what EVERYONE I'm friends with play the game for. Combat. Sure some might jump ship, but PA knows they have a diamond in the rough. Most ppl will stay, because no other MMO has even come close to the type of combat most of us stick around for.
and good waifus ^_^
In November Endwalker is releasing, meaning players from New World will be over their honeymoon stage and be willing to go to FF either for the first time or as a returnee. BDO isn't offering anything as far as I can tell to keep the players from leaving either. Where will the streamers go you think? Of course, FF14 because that's where the attention / money will be. We've seen in this summer when Asmongold left WoW, the world basically followed him. With his initiative and just by that, over a million players joined FF almost overnight. This wasn't just because of him but because of other streamers that wanted to grab the attention that he was creating. Then of course, the drama over WoW came to be and well, we know how that ended.
New World has a lot of issues right now and it won't be doing well by the end of next month. They decided to add temporary servers and their gameplay concepts just isn't working the way they expected it to. Not surprising since this is Amazon's second game (second to a mobile children's game) in the entirety of their existence. Enough time will have passed by for people to be tired of playing the game as much as they normally do and since it's not a subscription service game, they can leave whenever they feel like and not feel pressured to stay. At least, for good reason.
Now onto BDO... What's coming this month / next month? Nobody knows. They're not open with us so we can only assume that maybe the class rework is coming in early November, although we don't know for sure. Mansion? Ok... Maybe but that won't get players excited like a game size expansion that marks the end of a story. This is likely to be like the anticipation of the Season 8 of game of thrones, only it won't end in distaster, pretty sure anyway. lol
So what will happen to the BDO fanbase? Login / minimize? Ignore logging in and just go for FF? I don't know. How was it like when Shadowbringers came out? I mean, it will be like that but much more packed with players and if the servers could handle it, they would accept even more but they can't even buy the new servers due to the microchip shortage lol.
Personally, I'll be taking a break from BDO, but it'll likely be running but minimized. It depends how well my computer performs with both games running but if I'd have to choose, I'd close BDO simply because of the FF hype of doing things with old friends for the first time.
I'm not saying that there will be a lot of players leaving BDO but as far as I can see, they decided to focus on class rework instead of new content but without new content, class rework is kind of pointless since there's nothing to look forward to for those whom have already did just about everything. Plus, will people really want to keep playing BDO when all their friends are likely playing other games? New World won't drop dead overnight but it's something that people are playing for sure and they look like they're trying hard to becoming the next GW2 / BDO in a sense. Speaking of GW2, I think they're supposed to revamp their image soon with a bunch of changes and an expansion pack. Yet, another thing BDO will have to compete with.
So I end this whole piece with.... Is Pearl Abyss prepared for November's exodus? If so, what are they brining to the table?
what i see it is our population is very stable, it is between 20000 to 30000 players on steam since november 2020 and we never go below 10000 players since steam release
of course ff 14, wow, probably gw 2 have more players than us, so i dont think we will have exodus, we didnt have exodus when ff 14, gw 2, wow, wathever ncsoft release their extension in the past
and yeah new world is collapsing, they lost 150000 players every week
