For people (like me) who love to read lore about the games they play, bdo is probably one of the worst ones out there and not because it's bad but because reading it is the most frustrating thing to do.
Let me explain:
When I want to know something about a class/npc/region the best way to experience this would be trough playing the main/awakening/story quests and then (if it has been a while) reread it in my knowledge tab (if it even gave knowledge) or quest archive. The problem is that half the information of these quests is not in the knowledge you aquire or even in the quest archive but in trivia text that is often not even shown on bdocodex so it is IMPOSSIBLE to reread it except making a new character and doing every quest again (After leveling and equiping this character too).
This makes finding information extremely annoying and most people will not bother with it which is a shame considering there are a lot of cool knowledge entries and quests that most people just spam trough but then have no way of seeing again without serious effort.
Ways to fix this:
Make quests repeatable/a legacy system, Let us replay Main/Awakening/Story quests (without rewards) to be able to re-experience these moments. It would help people that want to know more about the games story a LOT.
And PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't keep adding knowledge for something and then make it read entirely different (and because you already have the knowledge now the only way of seeing this text EVER again is deleting it or hoping somebody recorded it).
I want to know more about the world of BDO but man PA... you guys make it not easy.
Just create a new character (you can literately copy paste your character apperance), and do it on that.
It's a waste of developer effort for something that affect less than 0.01% of players.

If I wanted to know something specific about O'dylitta I'd then have to (level) and replay every mainquest until this point, same if it's about a story/combat quest there as they only unlock after you finish the mainquests.
While it might not effect many, if they want people care about their world (and they WANT people to care, they NEED people to care if they plan on making Crimson Desert story focused (which it will be as confirmed already) and making a Book about bdo stories which while not confirmed has a high chance of getting written) then they shoudld improve ways to see and read their stories. Theres a reason why they reworked so many of the mainquests already and improved them in this aspect a lot.
They want people to care about the world but if they will not change the entry barrier nobody will bother, there isn't a single bdo focused lore channel on youtube/twitch for a reason which is very uncommon on games rich in story like bdo or any other mmo.

The problem as well is how they present the story/lore. I love reading and I love lore even more but BDO has a way to make the content so unappealing. It's really hard not to spam skip when the writing isn't very good but I suppose another reason is how it's physically presented on-screen. Their way is unique but it's easy to just skip things as a result. They may like to add voice over for everything for those non-readers but it does cost a lot of money.

The reason why they reworked the main quest line is that it was awfully long, and the new players did quit before even leaving heidel.
And this also literately ended up as oposite what you claim. The rework did butcher the main questline, and lot of it's part makes no sense, as they skiped most of the stuff. I did the old questline, and that at least did make some sense. The new one on the other hand ain't worth reading.
Also Crimson Desert got axed. It's pointless to hope as it not getting released anytime soon. But you can "enjoy" the lore of DokeV or whathever doa game they releasing soon.
Literally doesn't work with one time account quests. It's like you don't read anything.
Just create new account then? 200iq...
