Idea: EZPZ solution to make sailing feel rewarding rather than punishing

Hello PA, hope you are doing well!

I was playing sailing and realized that there's a lot to do but there is one thing that can be done as a priority which would make sailing significantly better and enjoyable to some degree. You see, I was fighting one of the monsters way up north from Oquillas eye and it was brutal. First it was hard to get there because the wind was against me (500pts facing against me) and when I finally reached my destination, the monster would run away against the win, making it very, very time consuming and irritating. This is not enjoyable at all and I vowed that my first was also my last for that enemy.

Summary of problem:

Ship cannot move at an enjoyable speed when there's too much wind/waves against the player. This discourages players from ever playing said content again.

EZPZ Solution:

Instead of having wind that pushes players back, have a minimum speed + ship speed and wind only gives the ship a boost. This gives the player the impression that they are not being penalized but instead rewarded for finding tailwind. The minimum speed reduces the stress and anger associated with sailing as well. It's a win no matter what.

Thank you for your time, I hope that you liked this EZPZ solution that could make the game rewarding rather than punishing.

Not commenting on the suggestion, but to solve the immediate wind issue: assuming you are in an Epheria sailboat or better, you can furl your sails, and the wind will no longer affect you (good or bad).

Also, unless you're a masochist, don't fight any of the monsters in Margoria until you have at least a caravel or galleass. There's no question though that dealing with the current and wind in this game can really suck - and it's even worse in Margoria. The ships aren't very responsive either, making it all that much worse. Higher tier ships help, as do higher sailing levels and mastery, but the controls still suck.

Ocean content is dead.

1. Precisely because of sea currents and wind. I have over 158 speed and ship is unable start to move against the current and against the wind. It's extremely stupid because the whole enchantment of the ship becomes pointless since the speed drops by up to 90%.

2. Another problem is the stamina (food supply) of our ship that disappear too quickly. This should be reduced to a great extent, even 100 times. Because it's also extremely stupid. One hour sailing and end of supplies.

3. Ship repair. Next fail. Ship repair material should work same as hp potion. It's extremely stupid (yes again) that after a few mobs killed (the most difficult) we have to take a few minutes break for repair.

4. Cannonballs are still too expensive. This makes killing sea monsters no profitable because ... we shoot them with our money!

5. When they remove oasis compass, I don't intend to go out to sea anymore.

Thanks for all your support! I hope PA can act upon this suggestion or work with an idea that makes ocean content more enjoyable. I wrote a very extensive list of ways to fix ocean content but I'll save it for another day in a separate thread. I know PA has a lot on their plate already.

I don't really mind the wind affecting my speed negatively as that is something that I can do something about by furling the sails but I definitely agree that the currents can be rather tedious. I don't want my ship to feel as agile as a horse or a Lahn because that'd ruin the immersion. Some thing's I'd like would be if:

A) There was a way to reduce the curren'ts negative impact, perhaps through equipment and/or sailing mastery?
B) We could see the ocean currents on the map ("M") by using a toggle.

Another thing that I believe is a major concern and something that worries me a lot is that with Oasis event going bye bye soon, the permanent compass feels almost like a mandatory must have and although some would argue that one could say the same about infinite potions there's the major difference that hp pots can be bought from vendor while compass parts are depending on players finding and selling them (as of writing this there are none on the market although only time will tell how it turns out as people might've bought em in panic).
With all that sa, the compass might eventually turn into a non-issue but lack of access to it could at the same time break the bartering life skill (I do not conser 120 minute compass for pearls to be a val option, game is expensive as is with value pack, kamasylve's blessing and secret book of old moon).

Then there are some small minor tweaks that would be welcome like:
A)  Giving us the option to have our sailors walk the plank for looting sea water or sea weed because seriously, what sailor in their right mind would conser that to be precious loot worthy of their time? Or ehm, replace those drops/events with something more interesting like quest starters, maps of sunken treasure or perhaps shipwrecked people (passengers?) that needs to go somewhere?
B) Add a convenient way to see when you can go explore/supply without actually being at such a location. Be it under the ship info ("P" when sailing) or always on display while behind the steering wheel.

You do know that Ravinia sells a 7-day compass for 400 coins, right?

400 coins is a lot considering most people don't have that kind of time to do all their bartering in a day. Ships move around like a slug generally unless you spend a considerable amount of time to get the fastest ship with upgrades, and that mast costs what? 3million coins? I don't think they have anyone looking at the numbers in this game and everything they label with a cost is RNG since the economy/market makes no sense.

A permanent compass should be relatively easy to obtain. Complete a series of quests, obtain certain items around the world or sight see and boom, done. No RNG involved, just progression based on a bit of time and figuring out certain things. A permanent compass shouldn't cost more than 1bn silver in mats either. It's not like a permanent compass is worth that much either, it's convenient yes... But there are so many other things that are more important in the game than to spend 4000 hours grinding for thanks to the RNG bs.
