I am coming up on 5 years in BDO. I have hundreds if not thousands of DFS requests and acceptances. With the exception of maybe 2 everyone has honored the DFS request and left after. Now I have had people that come up and just flag, then things escalate from there, those just flags usually happened when I was between guilds. I have also had hundreds of people, almost all unguilded, just go into where I was grinding see me actively killing a rotation, say nothing attack the pack I am attacking, then skip the next pack and start grinding from there, then ignore every attempt at communication, those encounters ended with me CC spamming those players until they died to mobs, or got so bored because they couldn't actually grind ultimately leaving. I learned like 4 years ago that invaders that ignore you don't care when you kill them, and the only way to deal with a griefer is to grief harder.
Flag on or DFS makes no difference to me. In both ways it's time wasting. But that's another topic.
No, the DFS player is being nice when he asks for a DFS. Because the other option is the feed grief karmabombing. The player that asks you for a DFS isn't the same player that is going to do the other 3 options.
It's like 40% of my dfs end with grief / feed / karmabomb / insulting / trash my class because "grab" or "monkey"... Hum.. Nop it's not " nice", just cancer high gs try to take all spots for him like cancer high gs grief all belmorn boss in abandoned monastery...
Wanna deal with griefers ? Just remove monsters damage - phase out characters once they start fight - no mobs to grind you fight or leave, up on death no penalty, karma lose only for 1 kill, after 3rd res character can be resurected only in region main city, after 5th death there is 10min delay untill you can resurect - effect lasts for 1hour. Its so hard to do ?
While the ability to become red and PK someone is part of the design of this game, it should never be possible to actively reduce progress from another player by griefing.
Mob feeding is something that happens way too often. Malicious players purposefully don't finish off the player they're attacking in an attempt to let a mob deliver the last hit, hoping the victim loses crystals and experience.
I propose a system wherein players that get CC-ed or damaged by another player will not receive any PvE penalty if the player happens to get last hit by a mob during the CC or for a 5-seconds lingering timeframe after that to allow the player to run away from the mobs once recovered.
You can simply credit the kill to the offending player instead of the mob, and handle it as if the offending player made the kill.

There was such system on GLabs with sherriff system. But I guess Devs dont make it live because is the only way to deal with the other griefing - karmabombing. Both should be punisheble, but I gues until devs find solution for karmabombing, mob feeding wil lexist to have some balance...
Karmabombing doesn't exist. WHen someone demands a dfs after I spent time to find an open rotation, I refuse and politely let them know how long i will stay. Why should I dfs when I took the effort to find an open spot? Inevitably, they flag up and often kill me. No matter, I pop a rezz pot and keep them flagged. For that, I am called a "karmabomber!" It's a completely meaningless term.
PS, they can't feed me to mobs. Trust me, lol

Phasing out would lead to a whole new level of griefers and exploits. I can think of multiple ways to grief and exploit that mechanic.
Want to annoy someone at zero risk, just keep tagging them so they can't grind until they give up and quit, because if the players are phased out they can't deal damage to mobs either thus they can't grind.
If you can attack mobs but not be hit, you have 2 players that grind together, they just tag each other, since the mobs can't damage you in PvP combat, no need for armor anymore, this just made Thornwood Crypt EZMode.

There will be no solution for "karmabombing problem" because PA does not conser it a problem but a perfectly legal operation.
And they are right.
Declaring war is a better way to deal with karma bombing than mob feeding. The player can throw his body all day long and your karma stays the same.
And this is what protection is for, to defend against those who exploit the declaration of war.
I will tell you more: on global lab (or even in Korea server now) PA fix this war exploiters: each war day cost 0,5% from whole guild money + 0,5% per day up to 3% per day. Also you can't declare war to the same guild within 3 days.
So:
1. No guild / protection
2. Max lvl (who care lvl in this game? lvl give you nothing after 61-62)
3. No crystals (crystals are too expensive and give too little), I have been playing for over 2 years and I have never needed them and I can do without them also in end game zones.
And I have no problems with griefers. After my few deaths they turn red and then I can attack them without any limitation (but I don't even have to because they go away on their own).

If you don't use crystals, you aren't grinding anything of importance lol.
