I started working with the music this week - Squirbo my shai - has reached 56 and started playing instruments.  The composer is a basic piano roll, but the music you download into the "Documents\Black Desert\Music" folder has no format.  I was expecting it to be MIDI files.   I searched the internet and I cannot find anything about hooking up my MIDI piano to enter the music naturally... the sadness.

My best and only advice, I can give to players with the urge to make music, go to YouTube and look up, song title + piano roll.  I really was hoping to discover a MIDI solution here.  If anyone has some advice about the Music Composer, I would love to hear about it.   I will keep my ear tuned to this thread.

Have fun!

Day 2 - Learning the Gizmo (aka the Composer GUI)

I found out a few things not exactly obvious or transparent to the user.  At "Grade F" I can only use 500 notes and 30 bars.  This means I need to do quests for better songs.  I am informed "Grade D-" can play 550 notes and 34 bars.  I  set aside my composition to do reoccuring music quests found in the Quest Log (O key).

Make Sure You Select the Instrument First

When enter the composer it defaults to guitar and I wanted piano.  I had about 3 bars done before I noticed.  Apparently you must start over because I cannot find a way to swap the instrument after starting.  It would be great if you could copy paste the music but again I cannot seem to find that either.

Moving Around in the Composition

I found the scroll bars on the bottom and right almost useless.  Scroll wheel on the mouse will scroll up and down and shift+wheel will scroll left and right.  While you can maximize the composer window, there is no resize option.  The little "100% -/+" in the bottom right will decrease or increase the bars width and not the piano scale.  I would like to be able to see my bass while working on the melody.

Clicking a bar at the top will place the play marker there, so you can listen without having to start at the beginning.

Items Missing or Don't Function Well

If they won't allow us to copy/paste notes from one instrument to another, an onion sheet would be nice.  Select Mode in the upper right fails to select more notes than what are displayed in the current window.  Which means transposing more than what you see, will be done in small chunks.  I tried CTRL+A and nothing was selected, you are stuck with the mouse click and drag box.  When using the microscopic scroll bars I often added notes by accident to the composition.  This, among other thing I have encountered, makes me question, what resolution do they really expect us to use for playing the game?

I am in the process of making a short version of "Shouldn't Be"  by Jay Chou.  I better get back to questing.  After all I am a "Grade F" musician I will need to be "Grade D" to finish it.

Last time I tried it in 2020, I don't think there was even a copy/paste feature so at least they've added that.

I went in and tried it out again just now, but like you, I can't figure out how to select all and move it to a new instrument.  Doesn't seem possible.  I had made some music for Guitar back before there was a piano, and now I want to change it, but doesn't seem possible.  There's also no way I know of to repeat a chorus, so we have to copy & paste it, but then that's not so easy either.

The other day I posted "Shouldn't Be - Jay Chou - Grade D - Piano"  and I left it open to edit, hoping other users will make it better.  I wish they would at least format the files in MIDI.  This would make it easier for those of us, with MIDI keyboards and guitars to add compositions.

I know some companies live in mortal fear of copyright strikes, but if they made in their Terms of Service,  all legal responsiblity falls upon the user, they would have nothing to worry about.  If the people at Disney want to pull the black SUV up in front of my house and send the 7 dwarfs to pummel me, so be it.  I can't see any good reason not to change the format to MIDI or at least add a converter option.

If I figure out anything else on this poor version of RoseGarden, I will be sure to let everyone know about it.

Have fun!
