Okay, so I realized I need to shut the music off after hearing a tune engrained into my head long after I've stopped playing.  The Bashim tune 3 hours a day five days a week will drive you mad.  Too bad BDO doesn't have a music juke box feature to change up the loop in a zone.

It's almost 2 years that I play bdo without headphones, the repetitive screams your character does when using skills, sound effects of skills and music started to drive me mad lol. I heard all of that still in my ears when going to sleep....

I haven't had zone music turned on while playing any game for 20 years, it's the first thing I turn off in every game I play.

Everything you just listed can be turned off individually.

2 years with a complete mute, if I had to play BDO with sound, I would probably go crazy.

I hear'd if you put kibelius on your guardian, that helps with the grinding...

I mostly like the ambient sound effects like birds, rain, waves, etc.  And a lot of the audio cues for various in-game events (small-e) are useful when visually overloaded.  Especially when playing with UI/HUD off.  Having more fine grained control over specific sounds here would be good. For example, tuning mount movement sounds would be nice.

As for zone music, I had that off from the start.  Just recently turned it on at a lower volume, to see what I had been missing.  It's not too bad.  My main complaint is that the dynamic range of volume os so large that most of the fine details get lost, and cranking volume up to hear those makes the crescendos ridiculously loud when they come around.

In many inns and around Garnier troupes there is local music.  That's a nice touch.  Volume balance is a bit off in places.

Combat music variants are better than I thought.  Skill sound effects help in knowing when a skill was executed correctly or connected or not.

Directional audio helps to find things sometimes, even if it's only "where's that Shai playing something".  Audio cues for threats are good (even desert disease acquisition, for example).  Need more of that for special moves from bosses and the like.

Character sounds and voice - eh, when setting that up there needs to be a way to preview some of the combat result sounds etc.  A voice that is good for some things soemtimes comes out later as an ugly grunt in a knockdown situation or horse skill fail.

All of this would be better if I used headphones, but I can't stand the things.  So I have to deal with the interference of cpu/gpu fans.  To do that, I recently went from playing in remastered to "lowest/optimal" and turned all of the rest of the graphics down.  Full potato mode is actually ok, and has some visual benefits, but when I turn on remastered again - and the fans crank up - I can really tell the difference.  And the audio gets mostly swamped.

All of this as background for getting to OP's point: some sort of jukebox selection would be good, for situations where that makes sense.  And maybe adding touches to the music selection logic that are character-state dependent in some areas.  For example, I could use not hearing the fanfare between Velia and Heidel again on a level 61 character.  That one seems squarely targeted at new characters discovering a new zone.
