I've noticed that for maybe the past half year or so. They used to sit IN the saddle to where it looked better to hide the saddle, but now that they float above it, it looks even more ridiculous when you hide the saddle.
I'm guessing they got complaints of some characters sitting inside the saddle so they over-compensated.

Because this is cheap game with only one horse ride position on basic saddle.
