The never ending real-world christmas music being played in-game was the last straw for me.  Turned off the music entirely and see no reason to turn it back on.

Game aesthetics: Started playing in earnest (sort of) in late 2020, so I did get to experience some of the game before the music / graphic / animation / etc. nerfs hit, but unfortunately was playing on a really cheap laptop is as low graphics settings as I could manage until I got a new one November 2021, so I still missed a lot. I kept music off for much of that early period too, and only experienced a few weeks with it on before those changes were made.

None of this will drive me away, but it is still very disappointing.  What was gained by doing these things, for who?

I suspect what we are seeing is just the fallout from some deeper game changes that were unavoidable for some reason.  PA tried to spin the music change as a positive, but the other changes were all just quietly put in place.

I really hope I'm wrong, but I'm afraid that it's more to streamline new content, making it easier to roll out.  If you don't have to make everything fit just so, and create a blanket, catch-all soundtrack, then, no worries!  Just plop it out and move on to the next thing.  People playing video games don't care about art.  They just want to kill monsters or players, loot, brag about their achievements, rinse and repeat.

Yeah, right.  We all have souls.

Poor art sucks mine out of me.......

Here's another great post covering ocean music: First Impressions: The new music system while sailing. Includes some great suggestions as well.

Good suggestion!

Yeah, I hadn't done much sailing before the music was screwed up, but I was impressed, as I was with everything, at how perfect the music was for everything!  The ocean, the islands, the music fit so well!

Then I sailed to Port Ratt, eaerly December of 2022, so I could be there before they got rid of it, and yeah, the music is as confused as everywhere else.  The music in the game is too good for how they're implementing it.  I can only hope that they invest some money in this game and fix these issues.  Our fun, and the game's future, really depends on it.

And if people are listening to Spotify or YouTube when playing those games, it's because they're the type of people who wouldn't listen to a game's soundtrack, no matter how good, or fresh or varied the music is.  Nothing against those players, it's just who they are.  Those of us who loved the music of this game, fix it for us please!

I hear they're restoring the distant objects, and getting the visuals back to where they're supposed to be.  Here's hoping they'll do the same for the music!!!

The thing I am confused about then is why new content follows the older style of music (This is GOOD, not a complaint!). For example, the Magnus questline's music is not muddled with fiting tracks looping as was done prior to the music rework. If they were creating a blanket they didn't apply it to the Magnus for some reason. I suspect, and hope, Land of the Morning Light will follow the old style or at least take consideration of music that fits.

I have not read anyone in here speak about the Mountain of Eternal Winter zone music. I've not returned there since it came out, but I wonder if the music there was reworked too or if it is like before the music rework. MoET came out very close to the rework I think. Anyone know?

Mountain of Eternal Winter had the new music system with release. I think the developers wanted to test their new music system there.

My first impression of Mountain of Eternal Winter was not particularly positive. As the music changed, the places felt soulless. There is no piece of music that I can associate with Eilton. We all know how Valencia, Heidel or Calpheon sound, but we don't know how Eilton sounds.

Someday, my friends, the nightmare will end, and they will let us listen to the music as it should be.

PA, I know it can take some work, but it's worth it.  Please, end our suffering!!!
