so i have been doing some of the ocean quest series during the season. i understand that instant teleports have never been a thing in bdo, but an hour long trip? really?

why is so much of this game designed to make the player miserable? wtf?

i would actually consider 15 minutes to be pretty long . . . but a freaking hour? the ocean stuff in this game to me is the saddest of all. so much potential and just so much absolute garbage design. ugh.

You know how long it takes to swim there without the pearl costume? A lot longer than 1 hour :)

My trusty 0 life span fishing boat only took me slightly into Ross sea before it got 2 tapped by an angry looking shark and I had to swim from there. It was quite a fun adventure though.

Its not gonna take you an hour once you go from boats to ships though.

Oddly enough, I have "fond"memories of being stranded at sea and having to swim out too.  12+ hours swim on one such adventure, diving to avoid pirates and critters... Not that I want to repeat that again anytime soon ever.

To get to Ratt, however, it just takes a traveler's map once you hit ocean (the detour to the slippery scaliwags was fixed, right?).  The way back is the problem.  Also doesn't help when you've already used a map and it's on cooldown for hours.

Used to take the ferries every weekend, to get the sailing exp quest, before I had a decent boat.  There's also a good bit of underwater quest content.  Can't recall details since it has been a while.  I remember having to go out for those at nodewar time so that the beasts weren't there.  They no longer aggro like that now, reportedly.

So yeah, it can take a lot of time.  Just depends on what you're looking for.

OP you couldn't have chosen a worse method of ocean travel short of swimming, lol.

There's really no reason to go to Port Ratt apart from-

1. Going there for the first time to discover it, which is pointless if you don't do the next 2 things

2. Picking up 1 daily sailing xp quest or 1 weekly crocs quest, which everyone just teleports there with a traveler's map instead of sailing

3. Resupplying after grinding saltwater crocodiles, which by that time you're already out in the ocean for an hour anyway

Have you heard of maps? Going to port ratt does not take long time going back however does. But that's ferry speed. You get a frigate buy gear for it and fly as fast as green good carrack and outsail green gear silly carrack. Frigate doesn't take much time to get good. Going for carrack takes a lot of work and time. There's no sea content yet but I have my hopes up. Bartering is not really sea content just means to grind that carrack. Once you get it and upgrade it -  game over, there's not much you can do with it. Bartering is not good money not fun either, it's chilled though

even a fishing boat as long you got a compass or a generally good sense of direction can make it there in less then an hour i remember when i got a quest to go to port rat years ago i didn't even know there was a ferry so i sailed my fishing boat all the way there :D died a few times to sea monsters though
