That's the question isn't it? Why should we bother with this place? It's like 10 meters square in size compared to what I was expecting. I was hoping something much bigger, ice fishing, having a purpose to the alpaca but no... Absolutely nothing is worth doing there. Nothing.
The fact that we're 5 months behind Korea and they have nothing beyond what we have for that region says a lot. We're getting nothing for the next 5 months. I'm convinced that PA's marketing is tailored to milking as much as they can from new players and throwing them in a ditch once they feel they're at the point where they're not spending enough money. It's a casino tactic, dry your customers dry until it's time to kick them out. There's more than enough people in the world to keep this concept perpetually until the game becomes too dated to play.
Minimal updates seems reasonable for their business strategy. Doesn't mean it's right for them to do so. I know i'm not jumping on crimson due to this.
Yeah I watched Karanda despawn two days ago. That ominous event still sticks with me even today. Since returning back to BDO a few weeks ago. I've joined and left 4 dead guilds. The one active guild I joined was full of dramatic people whining about their IRL struggles all the time. The guild that I'm scoping out to join currently, looks pretty inactive too.
I don't know, however things not looking pretty for BDO atm. Looks like a game that most just play from the system-tray.

I see a Nova with max bobs afking in calph4, she literately not moved an inch since 3months, she not process, not doing dummys, not switch to other char, nothing, just standing there. IDK why she burns electricity...

There are many reasons for population shifts in online games. Mostly I suspect outdoor activity has increased in the northern hemisphere and people like to go outside and feed the squirrels. Illness is a big possibility, as last month I spent about a week up in the hospital. I had a heart cath done and came back home on oxygen. I was able to use my laptop to log in pick up items, but didn't feel like "playing" the game at that time.
Sometimes new games distract players elsewhere, but the loyal ones will always come back. I imagine there was dips back when New World and Lost Ark were first released, but those trends wore off quickly.
I know one of my friends who play this game on PC, had his computer fizzle, and cannot play until it is replaced. Another said he has to find work before the landlord evicts him. So financial matters come first before leisure activities or at least they should.
If you use Steam (I don't) or base the overall percentile growth on it. They chart all the games they offer. If I am viewing the correct game* Black Desert showed about 30% growth during the free account week April 6th to April 13th. Then it dropped back to normal. Which means the same amount of people came and left. Otherwise it appears to be holding very steady.

If you think BDO feels empty, wait until you try the supposed critically accliamed MMORPG FF14.... Yoshi P let that game go down the toilet so fast. Hardly anyone plays that game and I'm not surprised, they refused to use Azure or some other cloud service temporarily while everyone wanted to join and play and said they wouldn't have their servers until August of this year. Meanwhile they decided to postpone their updates one after the next and the most important ones are still delayed. Hell, you can't even buy a house because their new auction system is so buggy they delayed it until mid-may and it's not a guarantee that it iwll be available then.
Think that's bad? They decided that thier major updates will be on a 4 month patch cycle now instead of 3. And to add more nails to the coffin, their events are repeats of the past events which historically, they have been adding unique events. This should tell you something about FF14...
Now why am I bringing this up? It's because while you login and see almost nobody anywhere anymore and the guild you are a part of once had over a hundred users online at any given time (even overnight) but yet now there's less than 10, and this is aparently not exclusive to your guild... What about other games? Where are people going? What are people doing?
I don't have an answer to this. I doubt people are playing new world or the p2w cashgrab lost ark. So where is everyone going? I feel like people are trying different games right now and BDO is one of those that people are trying. There's a lot more players you encounter in BDO than in FF14, despite FF14 having a higher population count. lol!
That's a gigantic LOL. FF14 has never been so alive, players are all in instanced areas, just as the game has always been. And even then every big city is filled to the brim. PF is as active as ever, if not more. That's just you hating based on some hopium. Sure healer gameplay has been trash for eons, housing was a fiasco, but the latest ultimate is a gem. Also, nobody is playing Lost Ark ? Yeah, you're just bitter.

I think it has fewer people than when I left one year ago, but I've seen a lot of role playing in local chat. Pretty cool. Funny thing is, the game is a lot better in terms of entry barrier, I think. They should have done the stuff they did NOW before they implemented season so season would lead into that.
Prol less people overall, but it's not really a huge difference. Definitely came back to a better game than I expected when I checked in.
Edit: if your guild is trash, join w/ us; we remakin' a guild. But I can't promise anything but luls. I mean, maybe that's the problem, people expecting too much from bdo! 3v3 tho...
