Is PvP slowly dying on BDO? Why and what can we do?

Pretty sure PA is full of "yes men" and don't really have a say into anything except just agreeing to whatever the head hanchos say and what the head hancho says is whatever will please their big investors. Honestly, if you want to see this game get better, you can complain but might get silenced in the process. Realistically if the entire community complains a lot about the same things over and over again they might listen but it depends on what since they don't seem to listen to things like de-censoring shai, fixing desync, etc... Big topics.

If you're an influencer you probably have more sway but there have been big names for this game that just got up and left and PA didn't listen to them before they did. Honestly, there's nothing that we can hope to do to change their mind and crappy decision making processes. You could not pay into the game, you could stop playing entirely, sure... But that won't change anything. People got up and left by like 90% of the populace before (twice) and they just used the power of marketing to bring in more people to replace them.

In short, there's nothing we can do other than maybe convince Elon to buy out PA LOL

... I am currently on a guild with 32 members, around 20-25 active on every NW, so what can we do to enjoy the PvP content of the game? We cannot have even fights with nodes capped to 40 people (40 vs 20-25 is never even), so the only thing we can do right now is to join an Alliance or disband the guild and massive join another guild.

How can Pearl Abyss fix this problem?

... here are my suggestions:

- Let smaller guilds play node wars: we need some nodes capped to 30 people, for example, instead of only 40-50.

- People now has higher GS than before, so the equipment cap shall be raised or removed.

- Fix current PvP shortcomings like super armor desync (you can get knocked down due to desync even if you are on super armor, as the enemy don't "see" you on this state).

- Get a REAL class balance. Nowadays it's horrible to see 50% of an enemy guild with just zekers, for example (the same happened in the past with the Musa rework).

I don't know if any of you guys agree with me or if have any additional suggestion, but I think it'd be nice if Pearl Abyss give a little of love to PvP content of the game.

Smaller guilds can join an alliance with another smaller guild.  This encourages player interaction, making connections with other people, and other Multiplayer aspects (PvP is a multiplayer aspect of BDO).  However, if they were to add nodes with smaller caps, I think it would be great for guilds who rather remain small.  How will this impact the game, though?  What are the positives and negatives?  Those are the questions I'd ask.  Positives are obvious, small guilds can have fun too.  The negatives, I'm not sure...less player interactions regarding partying together, I guess.

Keep the caps.  T1 easy, medium, and hard are for new players.  T2+ are uncapped nodes.

Desync, of course keep working on this.

Balance, there will always be FoTM.  Zerker META has existed long enough, IMO, lol, that class with its protected mobility, loads of grabs, natural tankiness, protected rotation, and damage is nuts.  But a META will always exist.

My suggestion would be to work on underperforming classes.  I hardly see Tamers and Succ Sages.  Haven't seen many Nova in a while too.  We have more class diversity today, which is good, but the underperformers, I hardly ever see them and feel this could be improved.  But for the most part, I think node wars are fine.  Just go out, meet people, and make an alliance, I'm sure there are more Spanish speaking guilds out there -- make it a personal quest to find them!  GL HF.

I left a fairly well known siege guild because I wasn't as active at the time.  I also was pretty frustrated at the hours put into the game to get stomped over like a blade of dry grass when pvping despite the time investment.

I then decided to join a "life skill" guild that doesn't do wars and didn't have big requirements with the goal of = leveling up, regaining some losses and then pushing my gear forward.

Fast forward 1 year or more and I'm still in that guild and probably I'm further behind in gear compared to other PVPers than I was - EVEN if I've progressed.  I still haven't went back because I don't feel like I'm "ready," but I imagine the discrepency is still there.

Im Not sure if this has been ever mention yet, but has in regards to Node wars, the fact that there is to many players of the same class since they are so broken could be easely treated by having a cap on the number of classes allowed for each nodewar, not locking players from participating the node war, but if there would be more then the max number(Lets say 4 for Zerkers), there overall stats and dmg of the respective class would take a for example a 20 percent downgrade, that way would force guilds/Nodewars to be far more versitile, clearly we are getting more classes and its something that i see not stoping any time soon, therefore balance will be something almost impossible for everything.

Then again, not balancing the classes would only bring money towards PA and not implementing a new mechanic is only going to perpetuate the problem.

Hi there,

I'm playing BDO since it was launched on Steam, so it's been 4 years now. At this point I'm at the high tier regarding GS, so I am fully focused on PvP as the rest of the content is already "done" for me.

Since the "big change" in node wars, I've seen the PvP content in the game slowly decline, and less and less people are active PvP players right now, as unless you are part of a big and powerful guild / alliance, you can barely join the node wars. For example, I am currently on a guild with 32 members, around 20-25 active on every NW, so what can we do to enjoy the PvP content of the game? We cannot have even fights with nodes capped to 40 people (40 vs 20-25 is never even), so the only thing we can do right now is to join an Alliance or disband the guild and massive join another guild.

Both things are pretty hard, as my guild is spanish and not everyone speak english, not only to join an active community but also to be able to follow caller orders during NW. The result is that many people are giving up playing, others have gone to stronger or more crowded international guilds, and some others are still trying to find a plausible solution. On the other hand, there are many guilds that don't play NW anymore, they just try to snipe to be able to play sieges on saturdays. And even with that in mind, as many nodes are capped is still hard to many people to enjoy.

How can Pearl Abyss fix this problem?

Well, first of all it would be to introduce more PvP content to the game, like the ranked arenas that have been talked about so much. But I think it's also essential to adapt node wars to current game conditions and players, and here are my suggestions:

Ha........... you don't seem to understand.

Guild won't enter guildwars so they don't lose their protection. Because of trolls who ask duel for spot every 10 minutes.

Need open world pvp!

How about this story about the awesome BDO pvp! I am usually on arsha when ever I am geared, but my friend is like hey wanna go xxx (not really xxx just omitted,) and I was like shure lemme gear up, and I geared up. Dudes been sitting outside of town and poking you off your horse, so I was like sure I'll play w/ you dudes for a min... that's pvp right!? Why not take a moment to give these dudes what they want (some pvp!?), next thing I know, I have killed a life skiller, I am red, and like 6 people are camping me LOL. I let them camp. I'm salted that I'm gonna have to grind Karma. The money is nothing, but it's just like wow bud really, that's what we got? I mean, I'm sure dudes are mad about something... p2w... etc, maybe they are mad cuz they are geared but trash. Not SURE, anyway, what would make the game fun is open world pvp! Sure GS people would still eat everyone, but they could give you like a lil sack of silver to have, even if it was only on arsha, and when you die someone could loot it, and it could be relative to your gear score.

But yea, I mean I consider myself a sandbox player, so I never really was into stuff like BA (tho I have been talked into it) or RBF or NW. I wanna do open world stuff and have fun, even taking massive Ls. That's what pvp really is. And re: pvp, since pvp is weird in BDO, if I ever see you doods who did that gathering, I'm gonna gather over u. If I see you grinding, I'm gonna grind over you. :o :o :o Unless you apologize :):)

Pvp does require some emotional investment, and it's sad you gotta karma bomb someone to really get any juices flowing. That's prol more why BDO pvp is wack... because it's not an intregal part of the game, despite what some people will tell you. Most you just get tapped out and leave someone's rotation heh.

I don't flag up on people like that.  I get them to flag on me.  Run through their traps and ruin their fun.  they will flag.  Good luck grinding over my ranger, lool.

I think the main problem is the accessibility of PvP. We have highly structured PvP (such as node war) and casual PvP (such as RBF). While the highly structured PvP provides possibilities for people to participate even with lower gear, the barrier is high due to the structure. You need to have a guild, you need to be there at specific times, you need to plan ahead of time what to gather, what to do.

For some people this is very fun, but only to a certain extend. I would suspect there are plenty of people who come back home in the evening and just want to have some casual PvP in which they can fight a bit and log off again. But they still would like to have that sensation of "my fight means something" such as the fight for node wars.

Then we have the casual PvP opportunity, with the major downside that it panders to the highest GS in the game. Here, not the structure is the barrier, but the gear score. You mostly will fight people almost at the end of their gear progression. For newer players this is completely inaccessible.

With the arena of solare we break a bit with these concepts. You now have casual PvP with normalized gear. This will probably spark more PvP behavior. However, this is only on the small scale of 3v3.

I would argue for more casual PvP in the open world, similar to node wars, with bigger factions. PA already said stuff about "Server wars". maybe this could go in this direction.

It's not just that. It's also, speaking from a personal point of view. If I want to do competitive PvP. I'll go play something like Smite or Apex. If I want to do mass-scale PvP. Then I'll go play Scum, Ark, or Rust. I'll play those games over BDO for PvP because they are dedicated to given out PvP fun on demand. Where as BDO or any other RNG gear grinder MMO. I'm usually spending 500+ hours of being fodder because of gear gap. Which was fun in 2004 to 2018. But then better games for PvP came out. So my drive to PvP in RNG gear grinders like BDO are at a all time low.

Far as the low gearscore PvP activities. They for all intents and purposes don't exist. You either have 650 GS to get into a active PvP guild. Or you end up in a guild filled with annoying people. Who just complain about the woes of their real life all the time. Or you end up in a guild that's at best active for 3 hours of the day. Or you end up in a guild that has minimal or no activity. Those are the options since returning back to BDO. Which is why I say low gearscore PvP activities don't realistically exist in the current iteration of BDO.

Actually for all intents and purposes, since returning to BDO about 5 weeks ago. BDO is pretty much a dead game outside the top 1% grindspots. I can grind in peace at Sulfur Mines, Fogan's, Naga's, and Polly's for like 4 hours without any DFS these days. Lot I can actually feel the decrease in active players now since I've was playing before.

My guild is thriving.  We have a few gvgs a week and we don't fit any of your categories above, lol.
