Welcome to the Trieste Underground Art Cafe, a roleplaying and storytelling venue! Patrons have gathered weekly here to share poetry and stories or engage in trivia and formal debates since January 2022.
All-Hallows, however, will be unique. The Cafe has been decorated for A Night of Spooky Stories - an opportunity for roleplayers to share their character's most disturbing and terrifying tales with their friends and even stranger strangers. Participants have been asked to prepare their verse ahead of time so we can hear from everyone; Halloween costumes are optional but encouraged.
As visitors walk in, counters to their right offer hosted refreshments of tea, coffee, ale, and more. Books lie on many surfaces. The cafe's furnishings are normally mismatched, eclectic, and comfortable rather than orderly and luxurious.
Behind the counter, hosts will be working rapidly to keep up with greeting visitors and serving beverages before the activity starts.
The stage itself has been redecorated for the holiday to give an appropriately festive and yet eerie feel for storytellers.
Downstairs can seat a fair number of patrons, depending on how many lounge against the counter or find a space on a soft couch. When the downstairs is overfilled, there is always the upstairs... From the second floor, the scent of freshly roasted meat, baked bread, and exotic Valencian spices wafe down the stairwell. A buffet covers three tables while a roaring fireplace providing soothing warmth and space to converse quietly for those who wish to take a break from the frantic activity below. On the other side of the partitions are the Trieste's backup kitchen and a small office. It is decorated only subtlely for the season to offer the Cafe's normal soothing atmosphere for those patrons who might prefer a more mellow evening. The Backup Kitchen and Buffet, serving dishes from across the continent. Most of the food is prepared in advance in a separate residence, but this serves to keep food hot.
