I ve been trying to do research and reading suggestions in this forum for a few days now and i think what we lack are Meaningful Open World PVP that players want to attend.
I ve seen a few good Concepts of Faction-based MMO-games, that have massive open world battles.
1 example i can think of:
Adding Team-Based Events with up to 100players**1 that will get assign to a group up to 20players**1 each, trying to conquer a place or steal a "unique entity" and bring it to their teams base and have to defend it. (similar to capture the flag).
They would earn 10 'Medal of Courage' by defeating an enemy , 2 Medal by an Assist. Every 30 seconds the "Unique Entity/Flag" is in their team territory, every team member gets 1medal.
This could be hosted instanced or on a seperate Server to reduce lagg (like nodewar).
Medal of Courage could be exchanged to valuable items after the Game.
**1 temporary number- depending on how many players servers can hold.
This is just a quick idea, and should be more of an inspiration than a thought-through system.
Maybe someone wanna build upon this idea, or suggest entirely new ones.
While factions would help to create conflict such objectives usually die in every game expect if they are extremely rewarding as in such case they are exploited.
I dont think BDO would go well with Faction-System either, it was more of a comparison of what we they had as Massive PVP Content.
Instead of Factions fighting each other, i thought of groups instead, either by guilds, which would highly unbalanced or Teams with 20 players ( if server can hold 100ppl that close).
So 100 ppl would enter the event and get assigned a Team.
I think BDO would do well with Massive PVP Fights outside of NW/GW.
This would give classes that are not good in 1v1 the chance to cast a massive Aoe in other Teams groups and make players think of good tactics for this Content.
