Add Chat Logging

I am adding this suggestion because a player last night on chat asked where he could look up the record of his enhancements.

There is no way that I know of so I could not help him.

But, if we could save our chat to a text file this can be accomplished.

Many games allow saving of chat log.

We can adjust the settings in the chat log to display the notices of success and failures.

Then we can call up the text file saved to view.

Cheers from NA!

Hi there, this function already exists in another way. You can see all the enhancements (and other important happenings like Titles gained) in the "Journal" of your character. Simply press P and then navigate to the tab called "Journal".

It only works for the active char, but it gives you a fairly good overview over your recent enhancements.

yes, I see. Thank you for that information.

However this is so temporary a feature it is almost useless.

If I understand how this works (which by the way my journal is useless because it logs nothing) the journal will wipe if you switch characters or even lose connection through no fault of your own.

Many games allow logging of chat. Perhaps some games do not wish chat to be logged for reasons unknown.

But I know I could have used a chat log when they kicked me from the Blue Chat once. If I had chat log I would have had all the proof I needed to show I was not the one who should have been kicked. It was moderator abuse and a chat log feature would have helped expose the truth.

No. The journal doesn't wipe (as you can see this is my record for the last month, I definitely swapped chars and restarted the game by then). Whenever you log back in on that character, you can see that characters history again, for the past months / years. So no worries. It's not a temporary feature (given that it works, sometimes DST messes with it) so all info is retained.

As for the chat log thing: you may not be able to keep a chat log (which, given data protection etc is definitely also not going to happen) but support is able to see logged chats and can see what happened. Any sanctions they take are usually put in context of the chat first, so there is no need for you to "prove your innocence", as support already has access to that

Since you brought it up (bit OT) the email they sent me had NO transcript or reason for the kick. So either you are wrong or they abused the system and chat logging would DETER them from abusing the system.

The real original intent of the post here is to discuss CHAT LOGGING. Let me change perspective here a bit and tell me why they do not have chat logging ability? Why? It is a very small text file we save on the client side. So why would they NOT allow saving chat logs?

It is a helpful feature and I see no downside, so why are you NOT wanting chat logging? Whaat would it harm?

Personally, I dont care about chat logging as an option, I only wanted to explain to you that the "log enhancements" function already exists in game, so there would be no need to have a chat log only for that.

I dont know the context of your kick, i just know there are policies, which say that GMs will investigate chat logs in order to determine actions. There is however no need to attach these logs to actions taken, which can make it difficult for players to understand. You can request the proof though via ticket. I cant say much about your personal case, just the general way things are supposed to be done.

My personal concern about chat logging are simply privacy / data protection issues. Being able to log all chat from other players sounds.. iffy. Logging only your own chat / system messages seems fine to me, though in most cases I dont see a Use Case for it, which would lead to development effort without a "payoff" for either the company or player in 99% of cases. Aka, to me its something that could be added but with an extremely low priority, due to the limited use for many players / overall.

I would however recommend that if your post was meant to ask about chat logs, to make it more apparant, what exactly you mean. As the example you have given is a functionality already, while the examples you have given in subsequent posts go beyond that ^^
