They do have Elion's Tears and Blessings.

I hate losing a crud ton of EXP upon dying, and crystals shattering is super annoying, but I can appreciate the concept of TRYING not to die, instead of just throwing yourself into battle without care.

So I learned to fight in zones where I don't die, until I'm good enough to fight in more dangerous zones.  It takes time, but I feel very rewarded when I achieve that success.

It's a doubled edged sword. 
On one hand I can understand the 'challenge/fear' aspect.
On the other, I don't like losing my crystals and exp to dumb stupidly powerful boss mechanics, While everyone stands around doing nothing or are playing alts. 
Sure someone will go and say. "Play an alt then."
That's not the point. I like going everywhere with my main unfortunately. 

Edit - Also desync happens, Mistakes happens. If you were almost to 66 and you somehow magically forgot ellions tears (Lets forget for a moment they even exist). 
It's dramatically punishing to die, Hours of afk and active grinding for exp. Punished for something so small. 

Punishing players is an outdated mechanic.
