After 5 hours trying to do the leap Professional quest (i like to finsh all quests )get 2 requiem shark and 2 whale sharks i have given up i cannot even get the harpoon to enter the mini game . I have sailed to the correct spot but nothing .2 emails to PA the last one pointed me here. Imho its a pointless thing in the game it obviusly does not work correct, i have even seen a guide where you have to have 2 people one driving a fishing boat while the Harpoon loses it durability so you enter the mini game and catch the fish and there isnt really anything new reguarding a rework on the skill. So this quest line will forever reamain un completed whitch annoys me .I hate things in game i cannot do
Using the harpoon is bugged forever and the PA will never fix it. You don't have to be exactly in a given place, you can harpoon fish all over specific sea area and catch those particular fish. The problem is this bug that makes our character not start fishing. And even trick with durability will not always work because with very high mastery, harpoon has the same chance as rod for use without loss of durability.
Two things can sometimes fix a bug: changing channel to another, exiting the game to the character selection screen and returning to the game. Sometimes it is enough to swim just a few meters and set up in a place without waves for the harpoon to start working.

I tried to hunt for the whale that only spawns close to Lekrashan. Good luck doing that with a fishing boat or cog! And good luck convincing someone to haul their butt over there and keep guard while you're busy trying to not punch the monitor each time your character glitches through the boat after the harpoon minigame kicks in.
I think that before reworking the harpooning minigame, they first need to sort out the other issues plaguing any boat activity. From you glitching through the deck while standing, fishing, harpooning. To the boat itself glitching and either pretend to be a floating carpet or a submarine, anything but a boat. To, why not the horrible intearaction between boats. Once that's done, they could maybe think on how to help harpooning catch up with the year we're in. I'm sure they will do all of these, then conclude none of them sells more costume and scrap them.
Having fun, rewarding activities that doesn't encourage conflict competition is not something PA seems to like us to do. Also, looking at how they're revamping stuff (with trading being the latest victim), I fear them reworking anything. Glitches, bugs, dumb cooldowns and detaching the activity completely from the profession it's related to? Hard pass! Let the harpooning rest in peace instead of "revamping" it by shitting all over the activity and playerbase. I mean, what if they'd then introduce a Mysterious Fishing Guild that catches all the fish and makes harpooning unavailable for 7 days?
Yeah not catching Aggro there is a sport in itself.
I also do not understand the hesistance to make harpooning available on all ships... it would not be gamebreaking in anyway that i can imagine. Maybe a suggestion of this kind just hasn't been read by the staff.

It sounds good idea at glance. Especially when you had to travel far on cog or even worse fishing boat to elusive 100mil whale location avoiding pirate ships and monsters. I think I thought then why not sailboat or up? However with current mechanics, glued to high deck plain, it would be constant through and through deck glitch. It makes stomach revolve. I guess baby steps. Make all boats avail and create anchor spot on each (like helm or cannon). Then char will be bound to ship and will move along with it. Bumping idea, make harpooning fun... Ever?

I don't think PA can or care to add or refine content for the sake of the content being fun. Whale hunting rework is a strong indication of that. Rawr-rawr is another one. Hah! Add the "new and improved" Elvia Saunils there for good measure.
I'd say there's a 50/50 chance that a harpooning rework will yield an even more punishing unfun activity with worse rewards. And then good luck seeing an "Applied" on the suggestion topic not feel like an even stronger kick in the groin.
Ice fishing looked potentially fun, especially after they've refined the mechanics a bit. Content scrapped. Skating in MoEW showed some promise, with the only obvious outcome being a bit of fun while traversing an otherwise barren land. Content scrapped. LotML was supposed to have all the bosses available as both a solo and a group content (even mentioned by a GM in a topic asking for more group content). I was thinking "Hmm! This could be fun! Like guild bosses but with a bit more challenge and better rewards". Content scrapped.
Sadly, there's no good online game coming out that would motivate PA to stop axing the fun out of BDO. So we're kinda stuck into a game aimed at and refined for new players that most certainly won't be loading into the game and going "Huh! I'mma snatch a boat and go harpooning ghost whales!".

The big problem is that this is a lifeskill suggestion and not enough people care about this sort of content to give this any traction. Maybe one day...prayge
