But if you're adamant about using Linux, feel free to use a VM to run BDO for now.

I'm fairly confident that violates the terms of service. I knew a guy in game that was pretty smart about this stuff, he even worked for VMware, and was able to get the game running inside of a highly customized VM; he was banned a week or so after.

Based on this experience, I would not recommend running inside of a VM without some type of widespread announcement that this was authorized.

The biggest problem with Linux is similar to the problem that Microsoft has some how delt with; massive amounts of varying hardware. If you take the Apple stance, and support a strict hardware standard, management becomes much easier. Lets say if Black Desert or even other like Valve, etc.. wanted to say 'we're only going to support our games running on PopOS'. This would be a vaiable solution in my opinion, as the makers of PopOS, while based on an Ubuntu mainstream, even sell their own hardware; so they entirely control what gets put into the system they ship.

I don't believe so, steam on linux was the same, most of users using linux and with the desire to play bdo on linux know they way around to make it work if the EAC flag is enable for linux users, besides that  we can use tool like lutris with script to setup the game, as for now we just need pearl abyss to enable the EAC flag for linux and the comunity will do the rest.

Speaking for myself, I wish I didn't  have to boot windows just to keep playing bdo.

That's my two cents.

Absolutely agree with that.

Waiting for PA activate EAC for linux support

I would like to once again urge PA to look into this. With minor effort, you would open up the game to new users. It would also make your current Linux users that have to jump through hoops to play happy as well.

Not that I would argue against a linux version but be realistic: At the moment there isn´t even an OSX version of BDO und the Apple user base is far larger than the desktop Linux user base.  Why would any company invest time and resources into supporting an operating system that is pretty much irrelevant on the desktop? The only reason to do so is to earn money and in this regard the Mac users who just buy about anything if there is an apple on it are probably a more realistic target. You are probably more likely to be successful by aksing the easy-anti-cheat guys to make their stuff work on linux, BDO would probably just run with an update they will do anyways somedays.

Easy Anti-Cheat does work on Linux if you're running Steam. And it's dead simple for the publisher to setup. For example, Elden Ring uses EAC and it runs on Linux just fine.

I'm not one to tell people they're wrong for wanting something because everyone wants something different. But I might be able to help you feel more at ease. Windows 10 support will continue to go on far longer than BDO will be published by Pearl Abyss.

With that said, get Windows 10, install OOSU10 which will permit you to disable ALL telemetry, windows updates and install what you want, when you want. Don't install Firefox or Chrome, instead use a more privacy oriented browser like Brave. If you want to go the extra mile you can use PeerBlock.

I use Linux daily for work and it's not something that I recommend for anyone unless they are dirt poor and can't afford anything but are willing to climb a mountain to get things to work the way they want it to. Linux is generally less safe in the sense that it gives a false sense of security for common users who improperly configure it. But if you're adamant about using Linux, feel free to use a VM to run BDO for now. There are nice things about different Linux distros, don't get me wrong... I would love to give the finger to M$ but hardware manufacturers don't want to play nice and it takes a lot of work to make games functional with openGL instead of DirectX for example.

It would cost too much money probably but I'm not saying they shouldn't do it. I'm all for more options, I just think that there are misconceptions. However, do not use Windows 11 for the time being. THAT is a terrible idea. :P

You are out of topic. You start going on and on about things based on how you understand operating systems, just cause that's how they "feel" to you. This is a bad habit and comes from windows lovers that can't get out of that relationship and try to fix problems by looking for checkboxes.

Guys, consider to join this post on EAC linux support too :

https://www.naeu.playblackdesert.com/fr-FR/Forum/ForumTopic/Detail?_topicNo=18937&_page=3

And think to the EAC link of the Steamworks how-to, also when you post on forum or send suggestion tickets :

https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/steamdeck/proton

Note about passthrough VM :

I use it during more than 2 years to play BDO, but it cost a lot. Dual cards = dual energy lost, even when you dont use the second card the power supply still manage it.

I did stop because cost became too loud.

If you have enough income, let's enjoy it.

Here's is the handbookI wrote  during my experience a long time ago.
