This and other game companies lean upon the motto "Sex Sells".  We all know this is true, since I can get a bikini for my character and not be allowed to wear it in public.  Since one can buy underwear and only view it within the residence, we know the undergarments are not to make the outfit appear any better.

Speaking from the female perspective, I played with Barbie dolls.  I don't even recall owning more than 3 Ken dolls.  If we needed a male doll, I would barrow a toy robot or even a GI Joe from the neighbor boy next door.  Not that we don't find the male physique appealing, we were little girls at the time and a can of soup could have been a good date for my Barbies.

Pearl Abyss and other game companies are just playing to the demographics.  The last time they gave us a male was the sage class and since then we had corsair and dragon knight. Before the sage was the nova, so it seems we are overdue for a male role model soon.
