Edit 3/20/2024:
Hey it's me, ya boi, Nurr, reviving an old post for the same exact "fix" that you made to the instruments a year and a half ago and then reverted cause only 3 people liked it. The fix itself isnt bad for normal piano, but you still have given us no alternative for muted notes and pushed it back down to 15 velocity to where songs that utilized them are now loud and to make them sound the same they would now be ridiculously quiet.  And all of the older songs are now f'd up again because there was no backwards compatability with said programming. :)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Original Post

Thousands of the songs globaly and tens of thousands of man hours after todays florchestra change were thrown away.  A good majority of songs that used the piano has changed considerably most for the worse and some are borderline unlistenable to now.  Overall I don't think this update was bad for the future necessarily but it was 100% out of nowhere and messed up a lot of the songs that we love to play. Most of which can't be fixed because the original composers no longer play.  So I personally believe a roll back on this update is necessary until a way to save thousands of songs globaly can get figured out. I feel that would be reasonable, since again it pretty much came out of nowhere and effected so much.

Which brings me to the point if we have to fix our own songs, a lot of the songs on piano relied on the muted note sound to create dynamics. The threshold between the samples used to be 99 and 100. It is now 39-40 which is now too low in the mix to even hear in most cases. I believe having a drop down option for Muted notes along side Sustain and Sustain Pedal would be a much better way to handle adding more dynamics. I'm not 100% sure on the other instruments since I mainly focus on piano, but I have heard from people that some of their older stuff has changed considerably.

Edit: On page 3 Cantaloupe posted a few examples of their own work being effected with this update to get a better understanding.

I would like to hear others feelings on this update. Thank you for your time on reading this if you do.

I am pretty sad about the update.

I can say that the change is def not a terrible one for future music.
We've been asking for velocity to get changed for the better for a while now, so I am happy that they are listening.
There are a few things I don't like about it tho, such as
-Softer notes must be played at a low velocity, but the volume of them is too low.
-Deeper notes/chords at high velocity (120+) do not have as much intensity to them as they use to.
I can def see, with it worked on a bit, the velocity change being better overall.

However, the biggest loss for me comes from any song release before the update.
I am devastated at the ammount of hours of work ruined by one change to the velocity system.
There are so many songs that I use to love playing that are just nowhere close to what they should sound like.
People can say to just fix the songs, but my dude, the ammount of time and effort that was already put into the songs is just gone.
Just do it again?
What about all of the songs by composers that no longer play that arent editable? Just ruined forever?

Why did this happen so suddenly? Did anyone listen to what these changes would do to old songs and think they were ok?
Why not seperate/archive the old system+songs into something seperate?
Why not give you the choice of old/new Velocity changes?

I just don't understand.
I'm very sad some of my favorite songs in game I can not listen to anymore.
I really hope something gets changed.

As someone who like many others, have put many of my own hours into creating content for BDO, I was devistated with these changes, in saying that, I am 100% confident that a company like Pearl Abyss with its scores of developers could easily come up with a solution where songs created before the this current patch will play as intended and anything aft will use the new system.

I just find it hard to comprehend Pearl Abyss making such changes without talking to the music community first, you guys know 100% where to find the majority of us, unlike other players who are just playing the game for the sake of say PVE/PVP/Lifeskilling etc, they dont actually add value to the game itself, whereas the music creators are actually giving Pearl Abyss content / added value that other players can download and enjoy within the game.

best regards

I was waiting for the limit increase so I can finish the part 2 of my BDO Vision song... did not expect a nerf/bug instead...

I'm happy there are another updates to the music system, but using the different piano samples as new techniques for the piano was the better way of helping creativity and having more controll over what sounds we want to use.

The way we got the update helped creating dynamics, but all the old songs that used the velocities as features can be thrown to thrash.

I tried to update some of the songs but it just doesn't work the same - so to people saying to fix the songs, some are unfortunately not fixable or at least not worth fixing if it still sounds bad.

To fix the piano problem once and for all we would need the ability to play two different techniques at the same time and having the different samples as different piano techniques.

Last thing, don't want to sound like I'm not grateful and i know this isn't a priority, but I would love to not having to wait another half a year for this fix >.<

They need backups of the systems that they "update" because, this past year, 50% of the time, they have trashed the system they're "fixing".  Half the time they aren't even broken.  They need to give the players a chance to test, and if it does something they don't expect, they can roll it back and fix it, while the players can continue using the old system until the next one is viable, not subjecting the players to a living hell.  The soundtracks has been trashed, the walking animations, and now thousands of songs are unusable.  The Shai music system is not unimportant.  It gives so many people great joy and gives them a place in this amazing world that is being created.  Sure, new and better music can be composed, but it is never a good feeling when so much previous work is trashed.

They NEED to test and consult with the playerbase before "improving" things.  Half the time, they ruin things.

I never use forum, but for this, I guess will. So, um, second that. The music update rendered all my music into a challange to listen to. :/ too loud, too harsh, like someone slapping a piano where i want a gentla tap... thinking if no rollback happens, will just delete them all... no point in keeping bad music. Would've been nice if we just got B, A or even S grade for music to compose with more notes, not this mess.

So, Pearl Abyss, you wanna tell me that even the roleplayers who are out there just making songs have to deal with their effort being invalidated now? What an absolute utter ridiculousness. Waaaayyy to f### over the most wholesome part of your community. What now, do you expect them to just remake all the songs from scratch? How about you remake the entire BDO from scratch but in a way it stops being half-a#sed dogwater, how about that? Are you so disconnected from the playerbase you can't consult those communities and work with them to make those systems better for them instead of implementing "fixes" that cause their songs to break? No wonder 2/3rd of the people who got the game and launched it at least once doesn't play it anymore [source: BDO Steam Charts as of 24.11.2022]. Keep it up, and you'll eventually lose even the most casual players.
