I can't seem to find any anywhere? My friend said do the main quests but I've just finished the Balenos questline and haven't received any? Are they further along? If so, when?

You will start getting the stones after Balenos and up to the end for Mediah. So just keep going. :)

Yeah, by the time you finish the Mediah quest line, you'll be swimming in them.
