There is a lot of cool content to explore, but with the class releases in the past few years it has become obvious that BDO is a Barbie/magical girl simulator.

Most classes are magical girls running around on high heels, with gigantic breasts and basically half naked. Most cosmetics revolve around undressing them or fueling gambling. Don't even get me started on underage girls, aka Shai. The most upvoted thread here was about shai undergarments which PA rushed to implement... On top of that, recent classes use extremely flashy effects that cannot be turned off, they scream and pant all the time, and just visually clutter the screen.

How does this even make sense for a game that places such emphasis on lore and immersion? Protective armor is important in combat, high heels hinder it, tiny girls cannot wield huge weapons with ease (greatswords twice as big as a person don't make sense either). There must be a limit to how much magic one can produce as well, like just how many red petals can litter one's screen? Extremely immersion-breaking and just tailored for fanservice.

Anyway I will be clearly downvoted as hell, but the above is accurate, just compare to any other game. Meanwhile we're gaslighted with Warrior being slapped on all promo material for the game, instead of half naked DKs or similar... at least be honest that this is a Sailor Moon/Barbie simulator.

Because it actually doesn't care about lore or immersion.

The Shai thing, if you ever used a classic box on her with no undergarment that they "released", you would understand why people wanted it, it seriously messed with outfits and ruining them.

Man, I wish it did.  There's so much cool stuff here, but it's wasted on poor writing and contrived storylines....... I wouldn't mind the people at PA trying to fix it, and they kinda did with Balenos, but everything else they have touched has been so............

The Magnus was not well done, but it's not supposed to be a seriously story.... at least I hope not.

I can only hope the LoML is all right.....

Sadly the high heels part (which is the worst outfits wise) is not unique to BDO, its in all Korean MMOs. The shoe is either high heels or sandals (Asian outfits), even the boots AND sabatons are hybrid high heels.

Now... if you can overlook the high heels on a sabaton, there's a trick to getting a "covered armor" look but its going to cost you more money... you need to mix & match outfits to make a decent one. Take Valkyrie Solaria outfit, its art designer decided to stop drawing when he reached the thigh, throw in Acher Guard sabatons, and it looks like a half-decent full armor. ...Or, you can play a male character... their outfits are always awesome.

Now that's not really a solution, but getting our voice heard by the Koreans devs is sort of impossible.

Lore-wise, its not terrible... but its mediocre at best. The issue lies with the translation team, there's so little effort put in there. Most of the stuff is as good as google translating korean text. But, if you want something akin to Tolkien stories or western fantasy medieval stories... you're not going to find it in any Asian made games, Korean games being a slightly milder anime than Japanese ones. You're better off with something like ESO... if you don't care that its run by people who don't know how to run a functional MMO or the fact that it looks terrible visually. (Aaaah, the ever struggle of finding a flawless MMO)

BDO is to be enjoyed for its fun combat and/or life skilling, not for its generic stories or its lore friendleness. If you can't accept that, then you're going to be upset with the game for a long time... korean players have their taste, and the source market will provide them with what they want.

They try to cater to different audiences which provide funds to pay their bills. I am also not okay with several of their decisions in this regard but I gotta see that people are different. So gotta deal with it.

Barbie simulators as well as lore enjoyers seem both to be among the target audience. So what? If you don´t like it then don´t go with that particular portion of the game, there´s plenty for anyone. Don´t tell me you are honestly butthurt about promo material. Man, I wanna have your problems... Live and let live! See, I am not a fan of the cliche buffchest waxxed highschool bully warrior with korean instagram babyface ontop but I let you be riding that pseudo-testesterone power fantasy as well. So let me be with my high heels toon.

Ah, you just wanted to tell me that my kind sucks? Great, relevant opinion I guess!

Downvoted cause you asked for it.

YW.
