I'm not even a Tamer anymore and I'd like to give my free bump, the change was dumb and seemed like an accident. Change it back.

Heilang lived for at least 7 years with this name.  Changing it now is kinda pointless.

I'm still going to call mine Heilang.  And wish you'd (PA) stop fussing with a game we loved playing for years until you started antagonizing us with pointless and unasked for changes.

Some Koreans used and many of them still use name Heilang. So it´s not a big deal for them.

But the hero - Tamer was literally named Bari and Heilang in EN version and 바리와 흑랑 in KR version of Shadow Arena published by PA.

It wasn´t any mistranslation, PA knew about it. And there's no reason to change anything after so many years.

Hellooo yalll, I got invested into this little drama so I did some digging myself. For some context, I don't play this game and am a League of Legends of legends addict but accidently found it while googling for a topic related to heilang~

Anyways~ I was reading the replies, when I read this little exchange on when Korea has changed from using Heilang to Hueklang.

Because the game was handled by Kakao, not PA. They had their own translation team doing things their way. Ever since PA took over they've slowly been changing things back to how they intended the names to be shown from the very beginning. They've done this every time something stands out in the game. A few months ago they changed Order of the Apricot to Hwasun Valley, because the original term had been completely made up by Kakao 7 years ago. This time they've changed Heilang's name to its proper written form (Korean vs Chinese). The name has always been the same in Korea all these years.

This is incorrect,

Kakao managed the game outside of KR, but the translations were still done by PA.
Heilang was still heilang in KR until recently.

As a League addict who happens to know Korean, I've come to bring my unwanted assistance!!
And after extensive research and hard work, I am pleased to say I have found conclusive evidence on what Koreans have been calling the doggie in Korea for the past several years :D

Alright, so Heilang is roughly translated to 헤이랑 (he i lang), Hueklang is roughly translated to 흑랑 (huek lang) and Black Desert in Korean is 검은사막 (a very direct translation of the game)~!

Urls have been hyperlinked to back my claims up!!

Evidence 1: The Official Black Desert Page on The Tamer
So currently on the official Korean page of the Tamer (금수랑 ), Tamer is definitely being called Hueklang while any variation of Heilang is not present.

Some of yall may be wondering, yeah of course it's going to be Hueklang (흑랑) in the Korean site why bother bringing it up? They probably changed it whenever they changed it from Heilang to Hueklang.
Or so you thought! I bring this evidence because the page was last edited on June 6th, 2022 at 11:49 (최근 수정 일시 : 2022.06.21 11:49). Please refer to the top right of the thread for proof

I could end the research here, but I know you hardcore gamers~
You need more proof (probably not), so I have looked for the older (i think) instances of Hueklang on the internet.

Evidence 2: The Official Black Dessert Youtube

In this video by official 검은사막 Black Desert, we can see that in the description box, Hueklang is being used several times again with no instances of any other names. But the most surprising part? This video was created on January 16, 2015, four days before the release date of the Tamer in the servers.

Which leads me to my next point of evidence~

Evidence 3: The Korean Leakers
So how did I find the release date of the Tamer? By the Korean leakers of course! On the page of Korea's most popular blogs (Naver Blogs) where Korean leakers discuss the newest news of any games such as Black Desert Online. Where they can be seen discussing the upcoming release of the Tamer on January 12, 8 days before her release.

And in another post by the same leaker, the following can be read.  "소환수를 이름으 흑랑 이라더군요" which roughly translates to"They say the name of the summon is Hueklang"

Likely being the oldest piece of evidence that Hueklang has been used to refer to the doggie.

Evidence 4: The Meaning of Hueklang
This portion is my opinion and could very likely be wrong, but in Heuklang 흑랑, you can break down Heuk (흑) and lang (랑) into two separate meanings. Heuk (흑) in Korean means black while lang (랑) has many meaning but in this context may probably means wolf.

For further proof, the official Korean page has this info on her recommended points for her "common".

Which roughly translates to "A unique combat style that involves summoning a divine beast in the form of a giant wolf, Heuklang"
Heuklang has always been the original translation of the doggo.

Conclusion
tldr; the doggo's name has always been Hueklang from the beginning.

Anyways the reason why I quoted this post~

This (바리와 흑랑) literally translates to Bari and Hueklang
So it's def mistranslation~

Edit: I just realized some of yall just threw 흑랑 in google translate to get Heilang, now I'm sad...

This is why yall failed spanish in middle school

Further Edits: I hope some of yall will chill off the Korea vs China war and saying that one side is xenophobic or whatever. It's just a mistranslation not a culture war :<

... Cool.

... But since launch, it has been called Heilang in our translation and changing it was pointless.

Yeah, if they wanted it to be Heuklang, they should have called him that from the get go.  Musa was Musa, not Samurai, even though so many of us would be like:....... what's a Musa?

I was, and am, glad to have a Korean warrior as my main, and even though I know nothing of Korean culture, language, etc., I was fine with a new experience.

The thing is: we've been calling Heilang that for years.  And now they force a change on us.

Sorry, I like Heilang, because that is who he was to me, and that is who he shall be.

What up, Heilang?
