I'm very glad that the game is improving and moving in a positive direction. BUT...
As the title says the pearl shop prices are way too high. I don't think I have seen a shop this overpriced in a long time. Everything is so expensive that it feels like you intend for players to wait for sales and coupons to even interact with it at all, which is in my opinion a rather odd way to design your monetization.
Buying a sub (loyalty pack) is $15 which is fine, but it's also extremely low value overall. Then on top of this you want me to buy a season pack for $30, and also a daily special pass for $35 and now I've spent more money on your game for one season than buying Diablo 4. This doesn't even touch on buying costumes and ship stylation which costs as much as a full priced video game in one pop.
I strongly suggest you reconsider how you are monetizing this. I do not mind spending some money every month, but all the things that I feel like I *should* get are so absurdly overpriced I have absolutely no desire to spend even MORE money on costumes and other cosmetics (or non-cosmetics). It's literally whaling territory atm and I strongly doubt it's actually the best way to profit on the store.
I should feel like I'm getting everything I need for $10-15 a month and then there should be space for me to put more into the game after that to work towards costumes and whatever else you have to offer.
Cheers. Keep up the good work.
Would be nice to have regional prices.
I've never bought the season pass or the special pass and I've done every season so far.
And I stopped buying VPs when they added Old Moon Book and Kama Blessing to the pearl shop.
My recommendation is to only buy the season pass/daily pass if you really want the extra items you get and the price of the pass offers those items at a significant discount from buying them directly. And only count the items you actually want in this calculation.
Other than that, I'd say spend money on permanent things like tent, maids, inventory slots if you need them. Also, spread this out over time rather than spending a lot of money in one go.
a rando on the internet says prices are too high, meanwhiles PA rolls in cash with same prices and most from west
If it sells, it can't be too high.
But you can't be serious if you're simply adding the prices of VP, season pass, daily prices... Well, for sure, if you buy every little shortcut they throw at you, it'll end up really costly.
I love buying 60€ ship skins.
I'm sure pearl abyss has business analysts who go thru data and identify the ideal prices for things to optimize their shop's profit, and what we currently have is probably what they think is ideal for $$$ overall. I think it's great to share our opinions but I am a bit fatalistic and just imagine that PA has access to data that is very convincing to them and we will have a difficult battle to change PA's minds.
that said, as a player, I sincerely wish that Old Moon, Kama, and Value pack would all merge into one simple "premium subscription." I understand that Old Moon & Kama are quite optional and there are valid arguments for ignoring them. But it just "feels" bad to know that the monetization exists in this way. This kind of overcomplex monetization doesn't make the player feel as though they have freedom of choice, it makes the player feel like they're being pressured with slimy "fear of missing out" manipulative psychologies and such.
I don't mind costumes & artisans being expensive, though. I believe that if "pay2win" is a very expensive option, then fewer players will use it. I'd prefer to play in a game where fewer people spend for advantage. If the pay2win cash shop options are very very affordable and always seem like they are a "good deal," then it would be more normal for more people to use these options, and there would be a sense that "everybody pays2win because it is so cheap why wouldn't you?" When pay2win feels overly expensive and feels like it is a bad deal, then fewer people will pay2win and more people will feel as though the pay2win doesn't matter.
Actually - I would like to see a monetization revamp where costumes no longer melt into cron stones at all. Wouldn't that be something? If costumes couldn't melt into crons, they could be much cheaper, too! Imagine $15 costumes instead of $25+ ones...
What if we had a world where cash shop whales bought premium subscriptions to sell to players, so they could have silver, and we all just used vendor crons? I think that'd feel much "nicer" than the system we have where there are layers to the monetization and people buy costumes for cron stones rather than for their cosmetic purposes. The current systems are so convoluted that it becomes tricky to explain to new players precisely "how" the game facilitates pay2win, and it's even more complex to argue why the pay2win does or doesn't matter... some simplification to things would be much appreciated and give the game a better appearance to prospective players.
I mean I hear you, but if you think something cost more than you think it's worth. Then the easiest way to deal with such is to not buy it. If that is too much for you, then maybe stop using said product altogether.
I tend to agree that prices are excessive, but I have approached bdo with a subscription based mentality with the intention to put ~$15 a month towards bdo
between double pearl deals, sales, and coupons I havent felt disadvantaged
its tight at the beginning, because you want a lot of things. Tent may as well be mandatory. New players who have been mislead by old youtube videos into believing that lifeskills arent complete trash want likeskill costumes, carry weight.. and value packs are their most beneficial in the early game when you have no money, no scrolls, and feel compelled to sell every item of value that you encounter lol
but eventually you get those necessities out of the way and it isnt so bad as long and you take advantage of deals and sales for what you want
now adays I just find myself excitedly checking pearl store updates to see if there is anything I might want to buy on sale 😬

Perfect answer. Define the amount of money you want to spend and stick to it, that's the basic line.
