Marni Realm is a bad idea.

Now hear me out.  Marni realm solves a symptom, but it doesn't treat the problem.

The problem is that the grind spots are set up for competition not for cooperation.  The Marni realm is opposite the entire reason for BDO.  If PA wants to stop the competition at the grind spots, rather than adding a Marni realm make it so that grouping isn't an active hinderance to any and all progress.  PA set up a game to be single player grinding and made only a few spots good while also dropping neccessary items at specific locations with only enough mobs in that area for 1 player at a time.  This forces players into one location to compete, that competition led to conflict that needed to be resolved at the grind spots.  There were many methods to solve this conflict, none of them perfect none of them bad.

PA decided to add Marni realms which did nothing to solve the underlying issue that the grind spots do not allow dynamic party levels, if it is a solo spot adding a 2nd person to your party is lowering potential of both players.  If it is a 2 or 3 man spot having less than that number or more than that number lowers the potential at the spots.  If it is a 5 man spot not having 5 players or worse grinding in a platoon drastically lowered the potential for everyone involved.

What needed to happen was they add a more dynamic level so that if you are there alone you are at a decent level, but if you add more players you get a benefit from having more players while also increasing the dificulty, number or whatever for the spot.  The ONLY place in the game right now that I can think of that was designed correctly was Miruwak Caverns, it's not perfect but it works.  At Miruwak for those who do not know, you can grind solo, but when the boss spawns everyone that helps increases the difficulty but also the rewards to the point that you are happy when multiple people show up.

Marni realm while everyone seems to like it, has had the effect that BDO feels even more dead than it did before.  You don't see anyone else at most spots, if you do see someone one of the 2 people have to go to the Marni realm and then it's empty again.  The Marni realm is slowly turning BDO into a Single player MMO, into just a single player game.  The open world aspect of BDO is going away.  The MMO aspect of BDO is also going away.

The solution to what was going on in BDO was to add a better Looking for Party system, and reward people for partying up rather than penalizing them.

Honestly if the open world PvP aspect of BDO dies like you say it will. Then that would mean their was no Interest in it to begain with. Which I highly doubt.

Who said boo about PvP?  Why are you bringing PvP into a topic that has nothing to do with PvP?

I agree with op on this. I never liked Marni's Realm because it runs counter to what an MMO should be. It creates these isolated cubicles throughout the open world, mostly to satisfy a concern that wouldn't be there if more spots benefitted from partying up or if more spots were worth grinding.

"Give them a piece of the cake, then they'll want all of it." It happened just as I had predicted.

Marni's realm was a bad idea from the beginning.

This game has and always will be a solo focused experience. Very little has been done to ever foster groups and when it has like Turos, that was almost universally hated (although the stupid ranged mobs can be half to blame there). I don't see any issue with Marni realm extension so long as it's reasonable and I don't think 1 hour on one hour off is reasonable. Only 1 hour a day is dumb and I personally think a reasonable number is more like 3. Hell a lot of people, myself included, don't even use Marni Realm for any grind zone because a lot of the times it's either not optimized well or it's not the spot I prefer.

They would have to fundamentally change a lot of the game for this game to feel anything more than a solo circle running simulator. I love the idea though of the spot scaling to a group but I don't see how they could possibly do that in a game like this unless they designed some group instanced grind zones or more places like Murrowak (which I freakn loved).

Never used Marni's Realm, because I want to play in a populated world, a world that is alive.  But I do hate viewing every player as an obstacle.  People aren't evil obstacles, but in this game, they should be free to be so.  Give us more group content, and leave the open world intact.

Thing is it wasn't always a Solo grind game, when Sausans and pirates were the go to spots, you would party up and grind along side the other people in the area because there were enough mobs and at the time it took more than 1 skill to kill them.  Then we got places like Hystria where it could only support 1 player.  Or the Musa player at Gahaz Bandits that figured out that even tho he could go to Hystria and made 25m silver per hour he could make 30m silver per hour taking every mob at Gahaz.  This pushed the game into a solo grinder because PA went down the road of "we want the players to compete".  About 3 years ago it has changed to be from "we want players to compete" to "we need to cater to the people crying about PvP" rather than what they should have done by trying to promote more group content that doesn't hinder you for doing the group content.
