Since sugar lumps now have a 100% chance to successfully tame a horse, the horse capture rate from certain costumes and mastery is completely useless. Therefore I suggest it to be changed. I have some ideas what could possibly be done with it instead.
Merge with current stats
Let's use Trainer's Clothes (Costume) as an example. Stats are currently Training EXP +10% | Mount EXP +15% | Horse Capture Rate +15% | Mount Skill EXP +15%.
Instead it could be: Training EXP +20% | Mount EXP +20% | Mount Skill EXP +15%
Replace with a new horse/training boost
Replace it with ONE new boost related to horses and training.
• Shorter taming mini game
• Certain % chance of the horse not to rear and trigger the mini game
• Certain % chance the horse learns
• Increased chance of the horse learning a skill when it levels up
• Higher chance to gain better stats when horse levels up
• Added % of success T9 and T10 awakening
• Durability reduction on horse's equipped gear
I like the shorter taming or not triggering the minigame. It is related to the previous function, but it is not overpowered. Of couse, I would welcome if PA decides to select a more powerful replacement :)
mini game is just annoying. granted, they made it easy as hell to do now, but it's so easy it's like, why bother leaving it in.
just put everything into training exp, its huge ass to lvl up training
Does anyone know of any other game where wild horse taming exists and if so, what do they use to make it more interesting? I'm asking because I genuinely don't know. The only ones I can think of are beating monsters until they have like 5% HP and then capture it somehow (think pokemon) or increasing your beast taming stats so you can "whisper" to the beast better and can tame higher level monsters (UO).
Personally I don't see a reason why a new player should be allowed to tame a horse just like that. Mastery should have been reserved for higher tier horses. But I get why PA decided on what they decided, they just want people to get in and play. But if they increase the difficulty of capturing horses they should also increase the price of which they sell for. The old system was boring and the new system feels out of place. So i'll ask again if anyone knows of a better system that can be used as influence for ideas?
Training level shortening the minigame would be great. I'd also welcome a minigame that was a bit more engaging (but not as time consuming) as the current one.

I would think Red Dead Redemption? But I've never played it.

An old game (1997) that basicaly started the whole multiplayer industry was Ultima Online. Taming in that game was great fun. Horses could be sold via player interaction as they were killed during PVP as well as other situations. Also available were Nightmares, very similar to the Doom BUT you trained them to fight along side you as well as dragons, wyverns etc. While the graphics were very crude the overall ideas were great fun. There were many aspects that to this day I have not seen any game company come close to with regards to player and GM interaction. Also many ideas related to player skills and abilities had a lot of merit when you figure when the game was released.
You had to level the skills to be able to use more advanced abilities.
definitely not this:
Instead it could be: Training EXP +20% | Mount EXP +20% | Mount Skill EXP +15%
since it would make it better than the pearl cloth.
Or go for it but also add some training exp to the Venia attire.
I always thought it would be nice if the minigame would immediately finish once the catching bar hits the right side as an additional way to complete the minigame. That way people who don't want to wait 9 seconds before spamming the spacebar can immediately continue while others who don't to break their space/fingers can just calmly keep playing the minigame as it is right now.
