On Olvia, you can not press Alt+C well you can but it does nothing. Think Seasonal Servers that only new players have access to. I know on seasons I have been followed by a player almost exactly like that killing everything I was starting to tag as well. It is just as likely that the OP didn't bother checking the spot for other players and was in fact the griefer himself without realizing it.
I was grinding in the same spot for over 30 minutes before a random berserker came up and stood on top of me hitting every mob I was hitting. But yeah sure, I'm the griefer.
I've been playing for less than 2 weeks and already multiple times on Olvia channels I've had some Berserker follow me aroumd and hit every single mob I'm hitting, standing quite literally directly on top of my character.
I've been playing MMO's since 2003 and and I have never seen this type of behavior. It's actually insane and I couldn't believe It at first. I then I asked around and apparently it's "normal" here. That's disgusting.
New players will not tolerate it and will swiftly quit. This will reduce your revenue greatly.
Please consider changing mob claiming rules(anyone within x radius mob dying gets loot and xp), zero cooldown infinite duration marni realms that your party members can join, or hire more GMs to quickly jail and supsend griefers.
I started this game with a group of 30 MMO vet friends who have been playing MMO's since ~1999(everquest / ultima online etc) and I am the only one left playing. They all quit due to griefers. These are adults who make 150k+/year and were willing to drop thousands on this. That's a lot of revenue lost just due to some griefers.
Move to a Marni zone.

Has a timer, can't group with others up in them.
Not a solution.

You said nothing of being in a group in your scenario. Switch to non-Olvia server or take a break while your Marni recharges. It's very unhealthy to sit for hours on end.

Not playing the game is also not a solution.

30 adult MMO vets who joined an MMO that advertises itself as an open world sandbox with PvPvE, and they left in less than two weeks because of griefing? That had to have been some really intense experiences in such a short time. Perhaps they got their money's worth. Such perseverance. We will miss their commitment to the game, to MMOs, and to interpersonal interactions, not to mention their money (thank you for the threats, by the way, keep them coming, they will endear you greatly to this community).
While unfortunate when it happens, this game provides players with multiple tools to deal with such things. The most basic is the ability to communicate. Did you attempt to chat with this person? Did you try changing servers? You have all of them available to you, not just Olvia, with the possible exception of season servers depending on your character's status. Did you try and use Marni's zones? Those were introduced as a way to grind without having to interact with other players. More: did you join a guild, and see if they could help affect this outcome?
"multiple times on Olvia channels I've had some Berserker follow me around ": People can't really follow you around to multiple servers. It's just chance after you server swap that they would pick the same one. Are you suggesting that there are multiple players with the same class doing that on diffferent servers that happen to be in the same rotation as you and doing the same exact thing? If you've identified it as the same player, then surely you've reported them?
"I asked around and apparently it's "normal" here.": Really? I have never seen anyone on any side of any player interaction discussion in this game that stated such behavior was 'normal'. Maybe they meant it's normal that you sometimes run into conflicts with other players? In an an open world PvPvE MMO? Surely you jest...
Your follow-up post:
"Do I have no agency over my gameplay": See above. You're not "being punished", etc etc.
Yes, actually, in an MMO you do have to adjust to the other people in the game with you. It's not always going to go your way. Sometimes those interactions are beyond acceptable ("griefing"), but most of the times it's just people - being people.
Over time PA has introduced more and more tools giving players 'agency' to deal with such things, I expect it will continue. What spot did you say you were in? Marni's not available yet there?
This does come with a cost, however. In preventing undesirable outcomes, some of what made this game special has also been discarded. You're welcome.
Please come by and insult us some more sometime. Because that's what we're here for. All for you.
Or are you, perhaps - griefing us? No, of course not.
