So many names are taken by inactive accounts, it would be great if they could be freed once in a while.

No need to delete the accounts, just giving them "FamilyName1", "Character1" names. Give them a name change coupon, maybe one which doesn't get consumed but only lasts for 14 days so those players can choose new names in case they ever return.

Last time someone posted this, someone got all bent out of shape about it.  It was comedy.

Good idea.  Of course, they should clearly specify how long you need to be inactive, and they (probably) should send an email to the person prior to the effect taking place.

Has it even been 3 years since PA took over and all the old accounts were wiped?

Use more fantasy to create new names. One in my friendlist has his char named Next_Worldboss. Its funny to see Kzarka has spawned and in same time Next_Worldboss has logged in XD It is unfair to let all players that might return, lose their fam and char names only because one fan would like to have the name Chuck Norris. Of course they can get their names back if they where unwanted but still its not nice. Imagine 20+ Chars and you have to rename them all.  Be creative and get your own unique name.

I just thought about having to rename my 30 characters (and family name) and I had a mild anxiety attack.  If I went away for a year or two and came back to having to rename all my characters, I would nope right out.

Just think of the people who still come back and wonder where the characters they had under Kakao went...

I don't think players should be heavily penalized over taking a break, and certainly this would lead to identity theft. I can see this being abused pretty badly especially for streamers who play for a while and then go stream other games before eventually coming back. A more novel idea would be to break away from the unique family name and unique character name system. There has been technical arguments about why they couldn't and how it's so ingraned into their game but.... BUT, the player count keeps increasing and with each player there will be many other characters. It should be, family name is unique (permanent) and character name should be anything within the set of rules.

That means if you are John Smith, I could also name my character John but i couldn't register Smith as the last name. I know, they stated technical limitations but that would be the ideal scenario in my opinion and worth pursuing if it didn't accdientally break the game somehow.

Thats such a great Idea! And those little gifts we sometimes get to send to another player should not be send to the characters name, but to family name.

That was February 2021, it has been that long, yes. And there are quite some accounts existing from that year with one or more characters sitting under lvl 50.

Make it 3 years, sent out emails 6, 3, 1 months and another the day before.

I do bdo breaks too, I also have over 25 characters but personally, if my break takes longer than 2 years, it's okay to make someone else happy with my name. 

You then need to define when someone is safe from being considered inactive to spare their name loss. Personally, I'd suggest the same thing as FFXIV [housing]: just takes 1 log in with X frequency to safeguard the name. If someone can't bother to log-in, then it should be free game. If they can at least log in once within that time, regardless of how long they logged in, let them keep it.

I am personally against releasing names 'cause sometimes life happens and keeps happening for extended periods of time. Then you suddenly find free time and whoops, that thing you wanted to come back to is gone.
