If so, he's badly mistaken.  I was in marketing for 12 years, and moved into General Management after being a VP of Marketing.  A standard metric is that EXISTING customers are more valuable lifelong customers than are new ones - often 3 to 10 times more profitable.  The cost to acquire and retain new customers is high.  A rookie mistake is to chase new customers at the expense of existing ones.  Unless you are already bleeding customers and lack the capabilities to keep them, you always prioritize your most profitable, existing base.  It'a marketing and sales truism that rarely fails.

I have a marketing degree, and while I did not hold a marketing job, I worked in sales for many years and recently got back into sales working as a part-time real estate agent currently.  In sales, there's this thing called the "80-20 Rule".  It goes as such:

"The rule is often used to point out that 80% of a company's revenue is generated by 20% of its customers. Viewed in this way, it might be advantageous for a company to focus on the 20% of clients that are responsible for 80% of revenues and market specifically to them."

https://www.investopedia.com/terms/1/80-20-rule.asp#:~:text=The%20rule%20is%20often%20used,and%20market%20specifically%20to%20them.

So I have nothing, in fact I'm all for, getting new players interested in BDO.  Thing is -- it needs to be done right.  And doing it right is NOT upsetting your already loyal playerbase who's been a loyal customer for YEARS.  Which is EXACTLY what PA is doing now.  Shameful.  J should step down, for sure.

My favorite part so far 😅

Macro issues... isn't he letting many streamers use macros? But non streamers who use the same macros as streamers getting banned? Streamers need to be put back into their place.

So game going to shotdown even before its first global ingame survey to get player opinion right ? Lets social media trolls decide what game need just to find out real players have nothing to do with it and leaving the game ?

All its take to fix the game is to ask ingame players, not social media experts who "don't have thousand hours to play game" instead they spend thousand hours proving their points on social media.

Don't worry J, your loyal friends - content creators not going run away from you to any other project on first oportunity. /s

It's quite clear he wants new players, either we need implemented PvE servers to prevent higher gs players from getting griefed or remove PvP all together which would be amazing. PvP players have only themselves to blame. At this point what else do you have to lose?

There's much at stake, but the woke won't ever understand it. Lose loyal players, who've been here for more than 2-3 years and spent cash for various stuff and maybe got an idea how the game works - therefore lose an income. New players come and go after less than a year (Not all). Or maybe even less than 2 months. If a vendor can no longer hold his loyal customers by any means - bad news for his career.

There's obviously something to lose. At this point one more wrong big step and it might be all.

You are 100% correct about the 80/20 rule in some industries its actually much much worse.. more like 95/5 usually in these you have your consistent repeat customers that love your products use them daily..

Then you get the 1 customer that buys something from you and literally acts like you should treat them like they are kings and queens for buying your product. They bitch about things that make no sense to its use and scream like Karen's when not catered too.

This I beleive is the trap that PA fell into.

Jae said it was not the new players and streamers that made them act on open world content. But I do beleive they are starting to see the ramifications of there decisions.

Now the direction they are going is dropping sales and they are doing anything like black Friday to bring sales back in line.

Honestly I don't think that this late night talk helped Jae in the least his apology was brushed off.

Players need to see the change not talk about the change. Least of all saying your removing content is what most people heard..

We are definitely in for a really rough patch with BDO and PA until they realize the direction was wrong. Hopefully by then it is not to late

What is supremely ironic about all of this is that this game was designed to be a PvP game.  This game was not and still is designed for players to not help each other.  We can't trade, we get penalties for grinding in parties, mobs and grind spots were designed for us to compete for them....

They made this game for us to be at each other's throats.

And now they wonder why players kill each other at grind spots.

All they need to do is make it such that grinding is BETTER in groups.  And griefing will end, I bet you.

Peace

Completely agree.  It's totally ok and a smart business move to attract new customers -- this is why I have nothing against that.  All the capped PvP, I am, for the most part, fine with.  What I have issue with is how they seem to be doing things the long-time customers do not like.  And it's not like new customer and old customer interests clash that much -- there are many, many ways to attract new customers while keeping the old customers happy.

One, simple way, is to make Node Wars more equalized --- Give us AoS style gearing.  And if you want to sell Fairy's and getting T4 Fairy's, offer Elixers at a Node War shop that everyone has access too, except, if you have a T4 Fairy, the buffs automatically apply.

On top of this, I think Marni's Realm is a good compromise, but IDK about this much Marni's time.  Instead, I'd vote for more rotations in grind zones or lower mob respawn rate to shrink rotations down so more people can grind in any given monster zone.  I'd also vote for making grouping up less punishing -- hell, even making grouping encouraged.

Musa4Ever brought up a good point above -- according to game design, we're not supposed to help each other.  Reduced EXP, silver, all that, it's obvious the game is designed around conflict and resolving said conflict, whether that be through PVP or not.  I don't think it would be a bad idea to reduce or eliminate these penalties for grouping.  Why not let us team up if we want to, at every spot?  I'm sure it would need to be developed so it isn't OP versus solo grinding, but that's a developer's job, isn't it?
