i have no idea what the development costs would be

They would be pretty high. You'd have to create a new model of every single class, including class specific visuals, animations and so on. That stuff takes quite some time. Sure it might not take as much time as making a new class, but it would be close to it.

I totally agree it's a very missed opportunity because I also wanted a dwarf class with the hammer/sledgehammer gameplay. I even imagined he would have special abilities to him called like "Blacksmith's Perk"; where he can repair his own gear for free since he himself is from a lineage of blacksmiths. Also a +30% enhancement success rate bonus and starting out with Professional Gathering 1(from the Mining aspect).

I'm trying understand why they would give the hammers to Scholar since I imagine a scholar would have a weapon that's ranged instead of blunt. Even reading a little of Scholar's backstory makes me think she's more of an archeologist.

Agreed, a hammer is not the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of a scholar. Especially seeing how a scholar's weapon is their mind. And yeah she's more of an archeologist. Still, an archeologist would use hammer and chisel. Scholar is all about study, pursuit of the mind. So more of a mage. She has magicka but does melee damage. So another hybrid class. One among many...

Scholar: J's Hammer of Loyalty as both weaons (main and awakened). Abilities similar to Sage. Movements are a mixture of both Sage and Guardian. Personality identical to Shai. Outfit a mixture of Salanar and Pavilla. With Whimsical Alchemist Glasses. Tell me again Pearl Abyss, how is she unique? Anyone?

If she's an alchemist, she should be using her knowledge of chemistry as her weapon.  Not a hammer.

Alchemists are not really blacksmiths, and vice-versa.

She is based on "Renaissance" alchemists who were mainly transmuters with the ultimate goal of creating the Philosopher's stone (to transmute others metals in gold) and it was common for the most talented to also be blacksmith and in general it's common for skilled people to be skilled in numerous field, hard to grasp for the average idiot who can't even do one thing right.

She use hammers because it allow her to put transmutation circle on the hammers heads so every time the hammers hit something it transmute it, so she is using her knowledge of alchemy as her weapon...

i've seen the most stupid reasons for people to not like her (except people who wanted a male class it's understandable why they're frustrated), it reinforce the cliché that westerner are morons.

Which still would have fit a Dwarf or Shai better. Dwarves are typically blacksmiths (even in this game) as well as scholars, and Shai know alchemy like the back of their hand. That's why when people want a remedy or someone knowledgeable of herbs they go to Florin. Dwarf would have been the best though. It fits them to a T. Alchemy that's more science, theory, and chemical equations. A scholar who weaponizes alchemy or transmutation. Who works that very theory into blacksmithing. Dwarf would have been perfect!

Also it's confusing to a lot of people because the renaissance alchemy and the game's version of alchemy are TWO different things. They work differently. So it's understandable why some would be confused by calling her a scholar or alchemist. It's like saying alchemy and chemistry are identical. Real world, yes. Fantasy world where magic exists, no. So while it was an interesting concept it was poorly executed and wasted potential. People wouldn't have been as upset had it been a Dwarf male.

Good luck, this class is gonna be so popular, I don't think these threats to leave due to gender is gonna be heard at all.  I may be slightly upset about it had they not revealed the male class coming with LoML part 2.  But since we do know a male class is coming next, with the possibility of a male gunner class coming right after, I think this is fine.

A dwarf is not going to be that popular, we've all seen the WoW metrics.  Despite all the races available in that game, overwhelming majority still play humans & elves. They're smart to not make something that isn't going to be played by a lot of players.  It's just good business.

They could have done something like a dwarf-human hybrid, best of both worlds. And in typical BDO graphics approach, it would have had an appealing aesthetic unlke dwarves in other games (and the full dwarves in BDO). But they didn't, so here we are. I'll bite, the novelty of new release classes is a draw of its own, at least until the shine wears off and the nerfs kick in.

It's not just due to her gender. It's about releasing yet another human in a fantasy game. I think a Dwarf would have been the perfect fit, for reasons I've stated earlier. They could have made them look really cool with the right amount of care, with the graphics this game has. Maybe they should do a poll (that they'd actually read) on class and race types. Have limited options so people don't go too crazy. That way they could see for sure what would sell, besides just releasing a bunch of human females in succession. A Dwarf class would have been unique (for this game). A human female, not so much. She's just one of many.

Maybe they can make their gunner a male Dwarf. If they are seriously making that class. That would definitely fit.  Maybe a gunner that has magically or alchemically infused bullets or guns via enchantments or runes or something. Like a mechanic, inventor, or artificer type class. Maybe be able to make different types of traps and various contraptions or something.
