Pros & Cons of removing gender lock

- More players & satisfied community = More income($$$) for game. - Easier to make outfits for just 1 - 3 body type. - Can add more race. (current: Gaint (zerk), Elf, shais, humans) - More fantasy class gameplay. eg: male sorc, female warrior, male Valk (aka paladin).. - Option to add Racial effects and easier change class modifiers into racial modifiers. eg: Gaint race having more HP/tankier & more stamina. Elf race having more crit rate & more atk speed. Human race having more crit dmg & agility (strength/magic dmg...), Shai race having longer duration on buffs and healing more. |
- Too much work to change the entire class modifying / body. - Very small scale of players group complaining about they losing thier class identity. - Too much work to make all outfits in the game to fit every race. - Large group of players always disatisfied cause they can't be the person they want to be and are forced into playing the race they absolutly don't want. Eg: Can't make human berserker nor can make the aggrassive shai race berserker (kidding :P). |

like i posted in another thread - i have no idea the costs of gremoving gender lock. I think it will make a lot of people happy to remove gender lock, and there are people who haven't played, or who currently don't play, due to this. Would it be worth the investment? Probably not.
I'd like to see it done anyway. If nothing else it's a really great gesture of, "hey we're going to try this thing people have asked for, for a long time - lets see how it goes"
Still, of all the priorities they could possibly have for development - this probably isn't in the top ranks.

I dont really see what would stop them from hotswapping a "player model" on any body. The only thing that would have to be touched up is animations if they used all the body types. BDO is set up as hero class system design though. Characters have idenitys so i doubt it will ever be considered at this point since code is probably spaghetti.
I mean like if the game was setup to be you can play X race with our existing characters.

Elf
Human
Giant
Amazon
etc...

The only real work it would requier is class bound outfit, and in the worse case scenarion the idle pose with weapons
otherwise they already has male / female body. No skill animation are "genderered".
Gender lock is one the worse setting made for such game, i never understood why that desire to entierly remove such choice to players.
Class / fight style don't need "gender" to have their own identity.
About lore : Its a made up story, its changeable at will.

Yeah, it'd be nice if they'd remove race and gender restrictions. I'd rather they do that before coming out with a new class. Along with working on the older classes. Touching up their animations (restoring others) for starters. That way they're more on par with the newer classes. But seriously, when will developers learn people hate gender and race lock?

It's not about the lore it's about how many "OnlyFans" costumes they can sell to the thirsty. PA has individuals with pyschology degrees sitting down with them at meetings telling them the best ways of directing their active playing population towards the pearl shop.
They are slowly squeezing the fun out of BDO and instead of looking back at things the caring population of people have given them in their Feedback section, they look right over it or interpret it on how they want. You want a male DK? Well, Jae and his team will put a new Gunner female class in with big BOOBAS and give her the Mystic's costume. You want a Dwarf hammer class? Jae and his team will give you a big BOOBA class that look like a Shai, talk like a Dwarf with some of every other class abilities. You want a Rhutum necromancer class? Well guess what? Jae and his team gonna give you a Green female Rhutum with big BOOBAS and stilletos with a DK costume crossover and two Jae's hammers to distract you away from complaining ( This is a good tactic by the way).
I'm all for unlocking gender lock in 2024 and putting both female and male classes in the same state of play " Again, why not Jae Hee Kim?"
