Finally able to post something on the forums after a while, with some free time during holidays. Although I might have a more important painting on the way with more wrist pain coming up...
I wanna start by saying we were really not given much time for this event, even if I did end up doing just a fast lil digital drawing. I did have an awesome idea again to design a whole new outfit (even if it ended up being much simpler than planned), which meant I spent quite a few days on just researching different topics and design ideas. First I thought to draw a Korean inspired scholar, seonbi, outfit; but I had to scrap that idea after playing the class and seeing - and hearing - just how Irish she really is.
So here's my astronomer, Verubin.
(Press R to skip lore. Source for all gathered info: very much Wikipedia)
The whole character design for my scholar came from the supposition that she's more of an astronomer than any other type of scientist. (Alchemy works as well, I guess, which I did try to include a lil bit with the mini bottles and all that...) After having googl- I mean researched so much of the Korean lore and astronomers already I did still want to include some of it in the drawing, which introduced me to the Cheonsang Yeolcha Bunyajido - a star chart from the Joseon Dynasty, and one of the national treasures of Korea. With the original done by royal astronomers, I feel like it fits the theme I built for her. (Cheonsang Yeolcha Bunyajido - Wikipedia - for anyone interested.)
Next, I wanted to make a western suit - quite literally - with still some Korean features and themes included. The seonbis usually wore white, at least during Joseon, but sometimes you can also see dark, wine-ish red in depictions, especially on the women of the era. A scholar graduation sash felt appropriate with her being a literal scholar, and golden yellow seems to be the color of science graduates in most Western school systems (or those that use the graduation gown/sash system). I added a little brooch to the vest, which did become quite smol and imperceptible, but which bears a red-crowned crane in gold on a blue background - the bird of seonbis, symbolising longevity, purity, and peace, and the blue symbolising the sky, hope, and life. I did also sneak in some mathematical and alchemical symbols and formulas in the outfit, like 🜍 - for sulfur or soul.
For the background, I really just wanted to try something new (and wrist-friendly), so I ended up trying to mimic pictures of nebulas and galaxies captured with Hubble and James Webb telescopes for a sort of golden ratio/portal-esque splash of color, contrasting the star map. I felt like something was needed for some "use" for the other hand, and added the pocket watch, although now she seems to be in a rush somewhere, kind of like a rabbit...
I think it's very clear at which point my wrist decided that this was it, so this is what we got.
(Note: I do not actually know how to write Korean, so apologies already for any mistakes in the star map with all the hundred characters and heavenly bodies in there.)
I like your outfit idea. Would be quite refreshing to see it in-game.
Verubin isn't really in a rush though, is she. She's just wandering :D
All in all, beautiful!
Considering the short time amount - I am actually amazed you pulled off some extra lore on it and actually drew a whole astronomer map/sign as extra. Outfit looks simple and fresh. Looking at drawing as whole I really wish they gave u all more time. Its like almost everyone wanted to do more and better but had to tone it down to simple ideas due to time limit and its a shame from PA organizators of event. Christmas time can be busy and some of us also want to spend it with family so 2 weeks on drawing task, right now during holidays was a kick in a knee for all of you participating. So here my *claps* for everyone's effort with this deadline.
Awesome work and +10000 on the astronomer symbol effort + lore research.

Thanks - and I do feel like they expected mostly screenshots and what not, most drawings take a lot longer than just 2 weeks, after all.
