These are a few ideas I had to improve sailing. The majority of these ideas involve making mastery more benefitial to sailors in different ways. I would assume adding all these ideas might be a bit overkill as a buff to sailing, however I do think that each of my ideas will benefit the QoL for sailing.
1. Allowing tent usage on ships.
The main annoyance is that if you are farming Pirates/Crocs and you want to have a tent drop rate you need to be on land to activate the buffs. You lose 3-5 mins of grinding with the buff on the travel time between an island and the farm spot. At the very least players who have bought the ship costume should be able to interact with the tent. It might even be an idea to make the ship cabins the ship based tent.
2. Allow summoning the black spirit on ships
This ones a simple one and pretty much for the same reason as idea (1). Its annoying when you need to interact with Black Spirit but have to find land to do so.
3. Mastery based skill activation
Similar to the change made to hunting a while back that allowed the use of matchlocks at certain mastery levels, perhaps you could allow players to activate the ship skills if they have reached a certain level of mastery. Currently mastery on its own isnt a great benefit to sailing at higher levels.
4. Improved repair speed
Repairing ships out on the ocean is tedious as you repair 1% hp per 10 seconds. My idea here is that perhaps higher sailing mastery could reduce the time per repair.
5. Auto repair skill
The idea here is to have the ability to repair a ship while still at the control wheel. The idea is to have a skill that heals a ship a certain amout over a certain time (e.g Repairs 5% durability over 5 mins with a cooldown of 10 mins). Another option might be to have a higher repair / longer heal time / lower cooldown depending on your sailing mastery.
6. Lower Ration Consumption based on Mastery
I tend to find myself running low on rations after an hour of grinding and I am aware I can feed rations into my ship. I feel that it would be good addition if higher mastery reduced the amount of rations the ship consumes over time.
5. Auto repair skill - sure, but for positive naval karma only.
