As some have stated, using a VPN is not the solution.
Please note, it was not stated to be one.
It was a suggestion of a workaround at the beginning of the problem, to determine if it were network related or something as and as a troubleshoot, it's a quick "test", from those of us in the community.
For some it may have solved their issue in the immediate moment, but does resolve whatever issue there is.

Not to necro this specific issue but it seems like the patching process itself is having a ton of issues. I had a corrupted file error during patching and file scan did nothing. I'm having to completely reinstall the game now.

Id argue if you can say that 20h is fast in situation when big portion of your paying consuments cant access product at all.
Not quite the same, but after starting the game from the NAEU PA launcher it 99% of the time just doesn't load anything. The scholar artwork shows up, but the bar below it is no longer thick and blue, but thin and white and almost every time I try, the bar remains white and doesn't fill in black as if it's loading. It doesn't load. It does nothing. It just sits there until I close it with Task Manager and try again. And again. And again.
I wouldn't be surprised if it's got something to do with the new anti cheat... I was happy at first because EAC very often doesn't like me playing Genshin at the same time, but this is just stupid. I can't even play the game now. And if it's not because of the AC, then the last update itself simply broke something.
It seems to work after a restart but then stops working again after closing or crashing. I am not going to restart my whole PC every time BDO decides to crash on character switch.
