Hello all, Its been awhile, some of you may have known me as DavidXX on the forums here, but of course I had to satisfy the lady as she preffered a Family Name Change in order to play BDO. Now, with that all the way, sorry for the hiatus, I just have not had the motivation to play this game, all these features they currently add aren't really addressing the core problem of the game and why it is demotivating to play. As I said from the title I got my gf to try out BDO for two reasons; 1. To see how the new player experience is in 2024 and 2. I was hoping she would fall in love with the game like I did and encourage me to grind and actively play again instead of afking. The honest truth is, I've wanted to make this post for awhile now, she tried the game nearly 2 weeks ago now and I just have not had the motivation to post, write, or indulge in anything with the forums. So without further ado, lets get into her new player experience with BDO.

I won't make it too detailed, but long story short she said it was "boring". Alot of pressing 'R' and found the Black Spirit 'scary'. We didn't even make it past the Western Guard Camp, and she immediately said she wants to explore, or I should take her somewhere "prettier". She kinda did like the combat, but she really fell in love with the dream horses, specifically the t10 peggy, "I want that horse, its so pretty". I kept trying to hype up the game and told her to 'give it more time'. I really really wanted her to like BDO as much as I did, but it just wasn't possible. I advertised so many great things about the game, purposefully leaving out the downsides, yet deep down I knew I was lying to myself, she could never get into a game like this, especially in the state its in. BDO caters to gamblers and lone wolfs, but those who enjoy activities with others find it hard to stay engaged/interested. I will try to come back and fight for what I believe this game needs, I don't want to give up on this game. I hope you all are doing well in your lives, and if you made it here I salute you, thank you for reading, and more posts will come, feel free to check out my previous topics in the past as well if you haven't.

Cheers,

D

If she wants to try something "Pretty" you can try starting her new character in Land of the Morning Light

This is such a great idea, I actually completely overlooked this. Ill try to get her on the game again to make a new character in that region and let you know how it goes, my only fear is that after all the prettiness of LoML you still get sent back to plain ole balenos. Hopefully she'll have fell in love with the game by then though

Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  While LoML is "pretty", it's also not BDO.  There's no combat outside of the storyline, which is not for a beginner, as it is built on the Magnus questline, and other story elements to give it proper context.  If a person loves BDO for Loml, they won't love BDO.

The real, underlying problem with BDO is that it is built on a denial of human nature, that competition will not breed toxicity.  They hoped that we would all love to fight over limited resources, and join huge guilds and engage in respectful PvP.  That's not the case.  Over time, people came to see PvP as a blight on the game, not a risk-factor that enhances the Open World experience.

What the devs-who-think-they're-gods need to do is stop with the mentality that "You NEED to grind at the latest places ot have fun", and that "fighting over other's corpses is the ONLY way to excel".  They need to give us reasons to party up: EXP and loot should get slight boosts from partying up, not making certain places party-mandatory so that they're pointless to lone-wolfers.  Every place in the world should have purpose: mid-gamers should not have to spend 3 years in the desert because TET boss gear is only good for that.  They should beef up all areas with the Dehkia's lantern mechanic, so that, if I I'm tired of Cadrys, I could get the same meaningful loot and items at the Bloody Monastery, or the Calpheon Shrine.  Elvia is unreachable for some of us that play classes other than Succ Zerk (which I do love), and it would be nice for players to want to have meaningful fun in all places in the amazing world of BDO.  They have changed the game to be way too friendly to newbs, at the expense of mid-game, and they're MO seems to be that the only way to play this game is to beat our faces against the sheer cliff that is endgame, where only those that grind 8 hours a day can win, or if you're super-lucky by tapping 10 peices of gear at 4% odds.  Tenacity and luck do have their place.  But so does balance.  The caphras system at least give hope that effor tover time will pay off, but it seems that sheer luck is the only way to get the greatest gear, but for what purpose?

Competative PvP?  Most people are turned off because of how it's implemented.

Change does need to happen.  Not destruction, or building something new.  Everything that exists in the game HAS a purpose, and everything should be made relevant again.  Not removed, but improved.

Then this game can walk boldy into the future.

Peace

I do agree with your sentiments as always Musa, you inspire me not to give up on this game, I do however encourage you to construct all of them into a post of your own, and give all your ideas, suggestions and much more mate

Cheers <3

Sorry about the rant.... it was building up for a while, and the Loml thing kinda set it off.

I would love to hang there more, but I see no reason to.  Life skilling is just as easy outside my home base in Calpheon, and all the

early game areas have the most detail and feel the most alive.

So I don't hang in Loml.  Maybe someday, they'll make it worth it to me.  But that it not this day.

As for hope: I do hope that PA will hire devs with imagination and determination to balance this game first, refine what's here, stop destroying things that do have a place and can be improved, balance classes, make Succ. Nova queen again, give Musa and Maehwa their arrows back....fix the music implementation.........

I digress.

Hope your GF finds somwthing she loves in this game!  There is a lot to do.  Maybe a lifeskill task, like tanning, farming, or mining?

Peace

I got both my wife and daughter to play it. My wife lasted maybe 50 hours? ...while my daughter lasted around 100. My wife didn't like it for the in-game purchase stuff, enhancement mechanism for gear, and one thing I remember her saying was "I bump into too many people." I think she was expecting to just run through a city phasing through other players/NPCs like Kitty Pryde. My daughter liked it... but she's much more into Genshin, so she drifted away from BDO pretty quickly.

Aha don't apologize mate, we're all volcanoes building up and one day we'll erupt, its natural, your only human, its what we do. I do hope PA will surprise all of us, very optimistic for the heidal ball, I think theres gonna be some BIG changes in the right direction.

Lastly, unfortunately I really don't think she will. She's a fps/moba player so coming into a mmorpg especially one like bdo is going to be pretty hard for her to gravitate to. But, again im optimistic she'll join us one day.

Cheers

Ah, thats still a considerable amount of time. And yeah those systems are definitely part of the reason players tend to lose interest in the BDO. All in all, glad we haven't lost you yet, it seems your too far in like the rest of us haha
