It is awful as a mode.

They seem so concerned with a stalemate, they add this avalanche of buffs, which means by the time one team is at the castle it's long since game over. But it's game over for 30 minutes of drawn-out, pointless inevitability of either farming meaningless kills or being endlessly farmed.

Why would a stalemate of PvP with two broadly even sides be a bad thing? Shouldn't it be possible to defend the castle then counter *somehow*? Otherwise why does the castle exist?

Surely a roughly even battle is something to design for as a designer, rather than design against? Their heads seem to be so in the clouds of 'grand strategy' they've completely overlooked that to the 99% of people in WotR who are grunts on the ground - with deliberately limited information on wtf is going on, where anyone is other than their platoon, and no automatic ability to hear shot calls etc. - it's not fun. And that's before we get into all the general NW/largescale issues with lag.

It feels like devs have been ruled by fear when designing this. Fear that nobody would play it, so they funnel it into 2 hours (well, 30 minutes) a fortnight in the hopes at least that will get enough people to fill it. Fear that it wouldn't resolve within the time limit, so they implemented mechanics that basically decide it in about 15 minutes. And fear that players wouldn't know wtf to do, so rather than give them the tactical information to decide for themselves where the important fight is, they hide it from them, resulting in the fun they have depending largely on whether the missions that pop up for them are sensibly placed.

Shrine buffs need to go, basically. Not just be nerfed. And I'd like to see every friendly and every enemy death visible on the map, too, otherwise the 3rd legion will forever be largely useless, because tbh at this scale with this level of comms you do literally need to be designing along the lines of 'go to this huge cluster of deaths to find the battle line' for people, rather than abstract objectives or relying on a single, overloaded player to do that work for you.

I mean, ideally, bin the whole gamemode and instead make it an accessible, 24/7 drop-in drop-out, endless war server, i.e. Arsha but with objectives, which is what BDO needs, rather than this random, bizarre addition.

100% spot on.  Other games have 24/7, opt in faction wars - ESO, GW2, Aion, Dark Age Of Camelot, etc.  Set 1-3 servers aside for that here.

Yeah, I'll never make the cut for Third Legion, and I do tons of IRL things on Sundays, so this content is dead to me.

I'd love to give it a try, considering how it fits in with the lore, but..................

Seems they don't want us to enjoy lore-driven aspects of this game.  We all know how hard they try to make good main questlines.  the sie quests actually bring this game to life for me far better than the main ones.  The main quests seldom make logical sense, as they're all forced and contrived.

But I digress.

WoR will need tons of trial and error before it will be good.  They'll probably scrap it long before then........

Sorry to derail the conversation, but did you do the quest (lol) for WotR? Its "lore" is that they go to war over something for which they had an eyewitness NOT TO GO TO WAR FOR. Even chat-gpt would've written a more believable plot for it.

Back on the topic: Imagine getting selected, but not being able to join due to a bug when the time comes (even though it was the highlight of your week and you took an hr preparing buffs and consumables beforehand). Just self-reporting here.
