Opaque had just been formed a few months prior, on October 17th, 2017, after splintering from Penumbral due to the inactivity of the GM. We had decided to split after deliberation, and formed the 'Hall of Spooks', as I jokingly call it at times. I didn't know at the time, that the formation of Opaque would be the way I met my now loving husband.

It was New Years Eve 2017-2018 when we met. I was having a rough time that year; being alone for the holidays was never fun. Especially when those times are filled with unpleasant memories; from a father deciding that his happiness was worth more than staying in this world to watch his daughter grow, to being abandoned by an older half-brother who couldn't bring himself to raise a stubborn teenage girl. I was a mess, and I knew it; therapy can only heal so much.

That fateful eve, after commenting in the old Discord server we used to use as a friend group, he approached me first, offering an ear to me. We talked for hours, and I soon forgot why I was so upset, as he asked me if I would like to enter a relationship with him. I cautiously said yes, as I was still hurting from a nasty break up back in 2016. As we spoke, we connected on a personal level. We then discovered a major issue; he was an American, and I Canadian; I in Ottawa, and he in snowy Michigan. After only a handful of days of talking, both via text and voice, he made the decision to take a risk to come and meet me. He flew in only a couple of weeks later, and fell in love. I felt myself start to open up to him. It was then he gave me a promise ring; a silver ring with peridot, garnet, and pink sapphires arranged in a flower.

Over time, we flew back and forth, taking turns visiting each other, increasing the time spent together gradually. A weekend, to a week, to a month. Thne times we weren't together, we spent together within Black Desert. When my aunt and my mother passed in 2018, he came with me and met my remaining family in Canada. We returned to discover that the GM of Opaque had passed on leadership to me while I was mourning with my family. I was livid; I did not bring a computer with me, as everything was arranged last minute. However, he agreed to help me lead the guild right then and there.

After we spent a month straight together, he had decided on what he would like to do. Of course, he never told me.

I had finally gathered enough courage to return to college, switching degrees entirely, and was starting soon after I returned. I told him what days I had off for vacation, and we arranged our visits around those times. That winter, on the 28th of December, he proposed to me, and we started my immigration process only days later.

A year later, we were legally wed in a small ceremony on the waterfront. Yes, it was cold, but being with him warmed me to the point that we could stand in the harshest winter wind and not be bothered.

Because of the large part that Black Desert played, when we organised our rededication ceremony for our friends and family, I made sure to extend an invite, to the guildies who made our meeting possible. As, without Opaque, we would have never met.

As a gift for each of our guests, they recieved a hand painted Black Spirit magnet as our nod to the game.
